U.S. judge to rule by Tuesday morning whether to bar House from getting Trump's New York state tax

Source: Washington Post

A federal judge said he will rule by Tuesday morning whether the House Ways and Means Committee must notify President Trump before requesting his New York state tax returns, even though the panel has not said whether it wants the records and the court has not ruled whether Trump can sue in federal court to shield them.

The potentially precedent-setting decision, pending before U.S. District Judge Carl J. Nichols of Washington, comes after Nichols last week dismissed Trump’s attempt to prevent New York officials from using a recently enacted New York state law to release Trump’s returns.

New York state officials had agreed while that case was pending not to turn over Trump’s records any sooner than seven days after Nichols ruled on whether the Trump lawsuit should be heard before him or before a federal judge in New York.

Nichols concluded the latter on Nov. 11, dismissing the New York defendants and setting the seven-day clock running. Trump attorney William S. Consovoy then asked Nichols to rule on the president’s emergency motion to intervene before any congressional request, arguing that without action, New York might respond to a sudden House request before the president’s opposition could be heard in court.

Full headline: U.S. judge to rule by Tuesday morning whether to bar House from getting Trump’s New York state tax returns without notice

This is yet another Committee case (House Ways and Means) - apparently having to do with his NY State tax returns (vs the federal tax returns). The other case that is more reported on is the House Oversight Committee and the SCOTUS administrative stay that just went into effect today.

I doubt Trump's removal from office, or defeat in 2020, depends on releasing his tax returns. Trump has bigger problems. We have come a long, long way.

It must be obvious to everyone who still refuses to understand that trump is a con and bad for the country that he is a con and very bad for the country, and the only way that is going to happen is if there is plenty of information that cannot be refuted, because his enablers can focus on one or two crimes to make noise, but more than that it would be a futile effort, not that they won't try, but when there is so much evidence its hard to make a case for the defense.

Is he a Trump appointee?

Is he a product of the Federalist Society?

Trump is systematically destroying the judicial system too---would like to know where and when this Judge came to his position before I get excited on this development.

But oddly enough, he originally threw the case out stating that the President had no jurisdiction over those associated with the NY state proceedings.

The House Ways and Means Committee has sortof looked at the recent laws that NY enacted regarding getting copies of tax returns and have "considered" perhaps using that route to get these particular returns... HOWEVER they have NOT actually asked for them yet.

So the judge has already told Drumpf and crew - "How can you sue the Committee to stop them from getting the returns when they haven't even asked for them yet?"

And I believe the court also said that Drumpf, in the position of a U.S. President, has no jurisdiction using the federal court to decide on a state law (implying that Drumpf should probably sue the state in state court - in his own individual capacity (which makes sense... )

I think hes more worried about his followers seeing he's not as big a success as he says than he is about anything illegal being exposed
