GOP Lawmakers 'Shaken' by Overheard Phone Call

Source: Political Wire

“Several Republican lawmakers were more ‘shaken’ than they publicly let on by the testimony of a US official in Kiev who overheard a phone conversation between the US ambassador to the European Union and President Trump,” CNN reports.

“David Holmes — who will testify publicly as part of the House impeachment inquiry — said in closed-door testimony last week that US Ambassador to the EU Gordon Sondland had told Trump that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ‘loves your ass’ and that Ukraine was going to move forward with the investigation Trump had asked Zelensky for a day earlier.”

“According to the GOP congressional source, that testimony led several GOP lawmakers to express frustration that Sondland would place a call to the President in a public restaurant, and are concerned that Holmes’ testimony was the most convincing argument for Trump’s direct involvement in the campaign to pressure Ukraine.”

They are so upset because every revelation makes it harder for them to hang onto their insane belief that "we don't REALLLY have a smoking gun because {latest bullshit}."

For way too many republicans, committing crimes is not wrong unless you get caught. Literally. They don't think they've done anything wrong if they "get away with it."

They know Trump was running an extortion campaign against the Ukraine. The weight of the evidence is overwhelming. However, as long as they can rationalize and dismiss the various "pieces" as hearsay, or whatever, they can continue to believe Trump hasn't really been "caught" -- and therefore has done no wrong.

Look at how many of Nixon's toadies are still running around and how many are still tied up with Republican wrong doings.

Maybe Treasonous Don's activities will finally clean out that cesspool, but I doubt it.

This is good news. Pukes aren't going to suddenly become en masse advocates of impeachment. It's beginning.

But they are not concerned about the essence of the call, the fact that the con was the "mind" behind the extortion, that they were talking on a cell phone where Putin could be listening to the conversation, that they were committing a crime, that Sondland was complicit in the conspiracy, that there was a conspiracy, that the con is a criminal and unfit for office, etc. etc.

They are only concerned that this may mean "they got caught"...traitors, all of them.

and whom they can't subvert.

Which means they will have to do something that resembles governance. That is something they really dread doing. Something they do not desire to be seen doing since they will do it badly, and they hate looking bad in public.

They were along for the ride. Trump wasn't supposed to go off on his own like this, or at least he wasn't supposed to be caught in the act. They were promised that he wouldn't get them tied up in anything that would disturb their calculated dismantling of Federal Democracy and their wholesale corruption of government into a cash cow.

Trump was supposed to keep the Democrats and the Press distracted by stoking the horror show and accusing anyone who mentioned that the sky might be falling of being subversively anti-Trump, anti-American, and anti-Business.

...Oops!

Holmes' testimony is making some GOP members worry about how far Sondland will go in his public testimony on Wednesday and two senior Republican sources say that some House Republicans are worried about how Sondland will handle himself at the hearing.
