Donald Trumps secretary of state has reportedly told three prominent Republicans that he is planning to resign from the White House to run for a Senate seat.
Mike Pompeo had planned to stay at the State Department until early spring 2020 but he is now concerned that his connection to Mr Trump, particularly through the impeachment inquiry, is hurting his reputation, according to a Time report.
The Republicans quoted in the piece reportedly include a former Trump administration employee and another who remains in the government, while the third has served in several high-ranking posts.

(47,291 posts)he needs to retreat from political life once and for all. He will never recover and he has no one to blame but himself. I suppose he could write a tell-all book, but I have a feeling there will be more of those than anyone cares to read.

(22,077 posts)attacks from scumbags like rump and his cronies. I think Pompeous ass is going to have a hard time already explaining his role to his voters should he run for a Senate seat. I personally think he's going to have his behind handed to him, and I sincerely hope someone w/ guts, someone w/ integrity stand up to Pompeous ass and beats him in any senate race.

bosom of Koch and get his fee fees taken care of and all the wonderful press Koch can provide him to pull the wool over the R's in Kansas. After all, before Trump he was a wonderful Congressman.
I hope not but we will have to see how bad this impeachment feels to those here who love the comfort of an R they know no matter what.
Of course we beat Kobach for governor so perhaps they are learning?
EDIT because D'oh, too busy to think. I had Pompeo down as a former Senator from my state. Corrected!

(34,095 posts)You are correct. I am sorry. I am waiting for a call on my husbands condition after some tests and running around trying to do all the farm chores myself. I fired that off without even thinking. I will correct it and thank you.

(34,095 posts)The hospitals are all full and he has not even had a room since we admitted him last night. I have to keep the farm animals alive so....I wait for the call. They never knew exactly where they were going to leave his bed after all the tests he has not had a permanent room yet. 4 hours last night before we even were brought into a room in the ER and about 2 hours before anything was said. My brain is fried thus the comment in error. I really do thank you for that.

Mike PompousAhole, Mike Pence, Mike "lock her up" General Traitor, what the hell is up with Mike republican's? If ya named Mike with a flag on your lapel and are GOP, you are a criminal. Lock em all up. Good thing we got Gitmo, release ISIS, lock up GOP. ISIS is less a threat to America. If ISIS had a Fox News they would rule the world. MAGA, God be Blessin us.

(59,498 posts)already bailed. In addition, he was positioned as the head of the CIA when he was nominated -- ignoring that he had been nominated and confirmed to that position by Trump. The rest of his political career was as a mediocre, right wing Congressman.
What major accomplishments has he had as SoS? Can anyone really believe our position in the world has been enhanced during his tenures in the CIA or State?

(59,498 posts)Consider NO ONE suggested that it would be a better career move for HRC, who then had 8 years in the Senate, to stay in the Senate as a Senator too junior to chair a top committee. Then consider that John Kerry, with 28 years of seniority saw the State Department as an opportunity that would let him do more than he could do as Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations committee, which provides oversight on the State Department. (In fact, had he stayed in the Senate and won re-election in 2014 - having won 2/3 rds of the vote in 2008 - he would now be second only to Leahy in the Senate. (Meaning he could chair any one of the committees he was on - including the powerful Finance Committee - although he would likely never give up SFRC)
Not to mention, resigning now is not the end of questions. At minimum, people should ask why he did essentially nothing to protect the State Department. Many there had hoped that given his career, he would end the hallowing out of the department that Tillerson started. He let everyone there down.
Not to mention - maybe through no fault of his own given the President - what major accomplishments has he had?
