The day after federal health officials announced a recall of select salad products, they issued a safety alert to include romaine lettuce harvested from Salinas, California.

On Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advised consumers not to eat and retailers not to sell the lettuce harvested in the California region, including "whole heads of romaine, hearts of romaine, and packages of precut lettuce and salad mixes which contain romaine, including baby romaine, spring mix, and Caesar salad."

Most romaine lettuce products are labeled with a harvest location showing where they were grown, according to the CDC.

1. Based on reaction to tainted vaping products, shouldn't we be banning lettuce about now?

10. Just had some steamed broccoli and root vegetables.

Tasty with just lemon juice and the herbs in the cook water.

11. People don't wash lettuce anymore?

When I was pulling mess-cook duty in the Navy, we were instructed to break down lettuce heads and wash each leaf thoroughly, then dry before we made our salads for the crew. We did the same with all fresh vegetables, not just lettuce or other leafy greens.
I still thoroughly wash veggies from the produce section. Never had an e-coli problem in 60 years.

12. I've essentially given up on romaine. If baby field greens and baby spinach fail me

Then Iíll start raising micro greens in my window.
