Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hospitalized
Source: New York Times
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was admitted to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore on Friday night after experiencing chills and fever earlier in the day, a Supreme Court spokeswoman said on Saturday.
Justice Ginsburg was initially evaluated at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington before being transferred to Johns Hopkins for further evaluation and treatment of any possible infection, the spokeswoman, Kathleen Arberg, said in a statement.
Justice Ginsburgs symptoms abated after treatment with intravenous antibiotics and fluids, Ms. Arberg said, adding the justice expected to be released from the hospital as early as Sunday morning.
Justice Ginsburg, 86, has had a series of health scares lately, including surgery for lung cancer and radiation treatment for pancreatic cancer in the last year. Over the years, Justice Ginsburg has also had surgery for early-stage pancreatic cancer in 2009 and treatment for colon cancer in 1999.

(35,300 posts)But people misquote what was said--or, rather, they fail to reproduce the entire quote.
We heard the bit about not considering/confirming a SCOTUS nominee in the year before an election. What was omitted widely (by the NYT and a lot of others) was the condition he imposed on that--when the Senate and president are from different parties. Since it's material to the meaning of the proposition it has to be part of the quote--to omit it is to change the meaning. (Not quite as bad as saying, "I do ... support marriage equality," where the "..." replaces "not", but still it alters the material meaning of the sentence. Defending the NYT and others is that at the time the contingency was irrelevant--it was true and therefore omissible.)
The (R) also cited some historical bit about that having held true since some time in the late 1800s. (Whether this is deliberate principle or mere circumstance I'll leave for those concerned about such matters to decide, but I suspect it's convenient "circumstance." I'm also not sure it's anything more than him trying to play CYA.)

Hang in there and get well soon.

(23,339 posts)thinking that this could be a record-breaking speedy replacement. Susan Collins is fretting over how long to fret before voting for the right-wing religious replacement.
Trump, as usual, thinks about impeachment and golf.

(609 posts)Polls from Wisconsin is disheartening post-impeachment. What is the story with Michigan and Wisconsin. Are people there so hoodwinked by the cult figure they cannot think straight?
Also heard Joe Manchen and Arizona's Sinema are against impeachment. If Democrats do not vote for impeachment, we are screwed. Hope our friends from those states pressure them.
