Trump Tax Records Reveal New Inconsistencies -- This Time for Trump Tower

Source: Pro Publica

Donald Trump’s business reported conflicting information about a key metric to New York City property tax officials and a lender who arranged financing for his signature building, Trump Tower in Manhattan, according to tax and loan documents obtained by ProPublica. The findings add a third major Trump property to two for which ProPublica revealed similar discrepancies last month.

In the latest case, the occupancy rate of the Trump Tower’s commercial space was listed, over three consecutive years, as 11, 16 and 16 percentage points higher in filings to a lender than in reports to city tax officials, records show.

For example, as of December 2011 and June 2012, respectively, Trump’s business told the lender that 99% and 98.7% of the tower’s commercial space was occupied, according to a prospectus for the loan. The figures were taken from “borrower financials,” the prospectus stated.

In tax filings, however, Trump’s business said the building’s occupancy was 83% in January 2012 and the same a year later. The 16 percentage point gap between the loan and tax filings is a “very significant difference,” said Susan Mancuso, an attorney who specializes in New York property tax.

After we get through this period, perhaps we should consider a few remedies. They will not be foolproof guarantees that another con or group of cons or foreign infiltrators won't look for loopholes in the system again. But they might close up the ones the traitor in chief has exposed.

Pass a law requiring the release of income tax returns for presidential candidates.

Another thst occurs to me would be more difficult because it involves the structure of the constitution itself and the balance of powers. Congress needs remedies with quicker, more effective results when the executive branch defies subpoenas.

As for SCOTUS, there is little we can do when they pull off an election move like they did in 2000. I am no constitutional expert, but AFAIK, the only remedy for SCOTUS is impeachment of an individual justice. What can we do when more than one goes rogue? Hard enough to impeach even one of them. Has.that ever been tried?

Holding up appointments to SCOTUS as Moscow Mitch did? We can pass a law to require Senate action within a reasonable time after a nomination is made. Make it illegal to hold up hearings for a change of administration.

But so much depends on good faith and tradition in our system. You cannot legislate that.

Only states will be able to do him and his crime family any damage and I hope it's more than slap on the wrists fines.

NY may get him, Florida is corrupt (Pam Bondi for example), and will not do anything.

If we, ever get a new AG maybe the long arm of the law will really be long and hound these grifters to the ends of the earth.

This was basically the substance of the Kefauver hearings on skimming money from LV casinos in the 1950s.

Who would ever think that a casino, where the odds favor the house permanently, could go bankrupt? Or really, how could it happen? Atlantic City casino went bankrupt? Amazing. How did they do it? By the 90s these businesses were far more regulated by the state.

Skimming.

Hiding occupancy rates from tax officials? Skimming.
Inflating occupancy rates for bank loan applications? Fraud.

It's one or the other.
