(53,544 posts)I get why they might think it is needed but it needs to follow the law. And if it is that serious I'm sure the legislature or the appropriate agency can get something done.

(14,674 posts)Set in New Mexico. I just assumed it was self-styled militias, supporters of Trump's war on immigrants, going out to find the guides (Coyotes) that help to lead groups of undocumented migrants into the country, and shoot them. To intimidate others of the same ilk.

(20,326 posts)But I've never heard any farmers around here complain about losing cattle to them. Sheep and goats yes, but not cattle. And our coyotes run on the large side and pack hunt up here in the Great Lakes compared to those out west.

(2,199 posts)Yes they eat the afterbirth but so what. Ive lost one to buzzards, but that is extremely rare. I enjoy having the coyotes around and we have about 15-20 calves a year.

(16,593 posts)I do not allow them to be killed. My neighbor with goats is not too happy about that but things get out of balance when I allow their destruction. Tons of jackrabbits and rodents.

(2,018 posts)I know guys raised in Montana and Colorado that said when they were growing-up it was typical to try killing any animal you saw while out in the country.
I also wonder how many of those livestock animals are grazing on public land.

(14,559 posts)When prey is plentiful they become very fertile having large litters frequently. If food supplies dwindle so does their fecundity.
Attempted extermination just cranks up reproduction. It's a battle humans will lose every time.
Nature finds a way . . .

I love coyotes, they are extremely smart, highly adaptable and are very beautiful animals.
