Top Atlantic Democrat Urges Van Drew To Vote For Trump Impeachment Or Face Loss Of Party Support
Source: New Jersey Globe
In a letter obtained by the New Jersey Globe, Michael Suleiman told Van Drew that a majority of my (county committee) members were very upset with his vote against opening an impeachment inquiry five days before the 2019 general election.
Candidly, it was a big distraction for my candidates and municipal leaders in Atlantic County during the tail end of the general election cycle, Suleiman said. Now that the 2019 election is over and the House seems poised to take action, I am imploring you to vote in favor of impeachment.
Van Drew is almost certain to face a primary challenge if he votes against impeaching Trump and Suleiman appears to suggest that he cant guarantee the freshman 2nd district congressman would secure organizational support for re-election when Democrats hold their county convention in March.

(128,908 posts)and I think it may be due to past ActBlue donations by me, I was added to his email list (along with many others that I unsubbed from to save my mailbox). And his organization was putting a lot of emphasis on a November Cook Political Report article that moved his district from "Lean Democrat" to "Toss up".
The main counties that make up that district (4 whole South Jersey counties and parts of 3 others) were basically part of the bedroom communities of Philly (some far-flung), where a number of old school Philly GOP voters, fled across the river to settle in the burgeoning developments of South Jersey. And that exodus began in earnest when the city politics changed in a major way with the elections of Joe Clark and Richardson Dilworth (the latter who has a plaza named after him just outside our City Hall) as the first Democrats to be elected mayor of this city in the 1950s. And it's been straight D here ever since.
I did like this quote from the OP article -
It's sad but true. The revolving-door of mayors of Atlantic City who go from City Hall to prison, has been incredible. And they have all been Democrats.
