EPA Reauthorizes Use of 'Dangerous' 'Cyanide Bombs' That Kill Thousands of Animals Every Year

Source: Newsweek

Aristos Georgiou 7 hrs ago

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced that it will reauthorize the use of sodium cyanide in wildlife-killing devices known as M-44s, or "cyanide bombs."

The devices are designed to kill certain animals for predator control purposes. They use a smelly bait to lure in wildlife before releasing deadly sodium cyanide into the mouth of any animal that takes a bite.

But critics say that the traps "inhumanely and indiscriminately" kill thousands of animals every year, posing a danger to endangered species, domestic pets and even humans.

In a statement published on Thursday, the EPA announced a "revised interim decision on sodium cyanide that includes new requirements to ensure continued safe use of the device." But campaigners have described these restrictions as "minor" and limited.

We seem to be drifting into the land of opposites, Orwell-style. That could just be the way the cycles roll.

It wasn't that long ago a book was released still trying to discredit Silent Spring.
The latest sick spin was trying to say that environmentalists are racists for trying to prevent developing nations from getting their hands on the stuff.

Still hard for me to fathom the mentality of these people, especially considering current research shows that non-lethal controls are better at preventing wildlife loss than lethal means.
I think these people just like killing for the sake of killing, and like all killers will move along to people soon to get the thrill they seek. But on further thought, I guess they have, the Cheneys are living happily in this neck of the woods after all.

"So I bend down and I touch it and I hear a pop and then a siss and then that's the gas coming up and like it was orange powder," Canyon told the Idaho State Journal days later.

Canyon said he knew the situation was dangerous, and he tried to call Casey to him, but the dog wasn't getting up.

"I saw this red froth coming from his mouth and like his eyes turning glassy and it was like having a seizure," Canyon said.

According to the family, no one with the government told them the poisonous device was near their backyard.

Well, there you go. Big cattle ranchers, once again, pushing their agenda of killing every animal that is not a cow. They've done the same thing with pushing the horrendous roundups of wild mustangs, claiming the animals are eating, "their grass" on public lands that they lease for pennies.

Coyotes and wolves being killed indiscriminately in inhumane and horrifying ways. Many more animals as well. Take all the money being invested in this crap and use it to buy livestock guardians on a grand scale--(certain dog breeds that are specifically bred for this, like Great Pyrenees, Anatolian Shepherds, etc.). Donkeys, and llamas both hate canines and will chase them off. But of course, the ranchers would bitch about the small amount of grass they might eat.

These evil humans are without an ounce of compassion for anything. They do seem to have a blood lust that rejects all logical alternative solutions. "Whee, let's KILL something!"

Great rant, Bayard. Keep it up.

What do they plan on doing when another child picks up one of these death traps ? It happened before and that was one of the reasons why they were dropped.

The sheer blood lust for killing in this administration is sickening.

No one is crossing the road after eating one. They inject the cyanide into the mouth. I have only seen them used for predator control.

I hunt bird dogs so you have to know how to get your dog out of a trap and how to avoid stuff like M-44s.
