Linda Ronstadt to Mike Pompeo: Stop 'Enabling' Donald Trump

Source: Variety

Pompeo, an embattled protector of President Trump, was enjoying his first turn as official host of the event. During the pre-dinner welcoming address, he quipped: “As I travel the world, I wonder when will I be loved,” invoking the words of Ronstadt’s 1975 hit “When I Be Loved,” penned by Phil Everly.

Ronstadt has been an outspoken critic of Trump. When it came her turn following dinner to receive the honor and make optional remarks, Ronstadt rose to the microphone a few feet away from the host’s table and looked straight ahead. “I’d like to say to Mr. Pompeo, who wonders when he’ll be loved, it’s when he stops enabling Donald Trump.” Then she sat down.

The line drew immediate gasps from the audience, followed by slowly building applause, and then cheers.

Among those in attendance was House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who received a standing ovation from a majority of the politically divided gathering.

for a political career as Kansas' Senator soon. Apparently he's already weighed the pros and cons and figures loyalty to Trump is his ticket to bigger and better things. I most sincerely hope he's wrong, but in a bright red state like Kansas..........

I had such a crush on Linda Ronstadt when I was young man. Now we're both old and gray, but our politics still mesh. She's a great woman, and I bet she can still belt out a tune.

says something. John Kerry, with seniority to be Chair of Senate Foreign Relations (and who would by now be the second most senior Democrat to Leahy - having his choice of chairing (when we get the majority) SFRC, Commerce , Finance and Small Business as he would be most senior in each, was extremely excited to trade this off and accept being SoS, where he received honors all over the world in his last year.

From her Wikipedia page:

Retirement

In 2011, Ronstadt was interviewed by the Arizona Daily Star and announced her retirement. In August 2013, she revealed to Alanna Nash, writing for AARP, that she has Parkinson's disease and "can no longer sing a note." Her diagnosis was subsequently re-evaluated as progressive supranuclear palsy.

I thought about that well after I posted it. My aging thought process didn't recall that she fell victim to Parkinson's. I do recall reading that some time ago. Guess the only way I'll hear her sing again will be one of her CDs. Age catches up to everyone sooner or later. It just seems the good ones are the recipients of time's worst punishments, and assholes like Trump will go on forever.

Good for her! And the documentary, Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice, is wonderful. I saw it in the theatre. It'll be airing on CNN on New Years Day. I highly recommend it...
