Whiteout conditions to blanket the Plains, Midwest as whipping blizzard conditions bring heavy snow
Source: AccuWeather
By Brandon Buckingham,
A potentially major winter storm will take aim at the nation's midsection this weekend and into early next week, bringing the threat for whiteout conditions and up to two feet of snow over portions of the Plains.
The same storm system will first track through the southwestern United States, bringing snow to the Southern California mountains and the Four Corners region into Friday night.
As the storm system begins to turn northeastward by Friday afternoon, a wintry mixture of ice, sleet and snow will develop across portions of Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska. Farther southeast, drought-busting rain will fall across the southern Plains and mid-Mississippi Valley.
As colder air filters southward from Canada, snow will begin to spread across the Plains Friday night. Portions of Interstates 76, 80 and 90 in Colorado, Nebraska and South Dakota will likely experience accumulating snowfall overnight Friday.

(18,770 posts)It was during my commercial pilot days (no pax - I flew aircraft parts around the midwest). One thing that sticks in my mind was that winters were better than they were in NYS (where I'm from). Now, I'm not sure that's true anymore.

(34,135 posts)We will get around an inch or more of rain, something we do not really need and makes it difficult with my critters, but out of the snow, ice, blizzard conditions thankfully.

(14,118 posts)every week and sometimes a "bonus" blizzard too. One day the recorded temperature was -75.
(-50 plus -25 windchill) Be prepared. Take care of yourself and your neighbors. We can survive this. But notice that I don't live there anymore...
