Greta Thunberg: 'Nothing has been done' to tackle the climate crisis

Source: CNN

By Hadas Gold,

Davos, Switzerland (CNN Business)Greta Thunberg took the stage at the World Economic Forum Tuesday to admonish world leaders for doing "basically nothing" to reduce carbon emissions despite evidence of a looming climate catastrophe.

Speaking just hours before President Donald Trump's scheduled appearance at the annual gathering of the world's political, business and financial elite, the teen activist said awareness of the climate crisis had shot up but in other respects, not much had changed.

"Pretty much nothing has been done since the global emissions of CO2 has not reduced," Thunberg said. "f you see it from that aspect, what has concretely been done, if you see it from a bigger perspective, basically nothing ... it will require much more than this, this is just the very beginning."

Asked what she wanted to see in the future, Thunberg said "that we start listening to the science and that we actually start treating this crisis as the crisis it is."

of climate crisis, we consign our next generations to an increasingly unlivable world. What is being done now, relative to the task at hand, is nothing. We in the USA, having injected massive amounts of CO2 over recent decades, are a sad joke in terms on current leadership. The possibilities of leadership change here provide little or no hope for significant improvements depending upon who holds the reigns of power a year from now.

As of '17, the US population has grown by 80+ million since 1990, but our output has dropped from 30 years ago. Meanwhile, China & India have INCREASED their output by over 100% over just the past 15 years.

And China still planning to build over 300 new coal fired power plants. The US? Hardly any.

And we continue to ignore nuclear; the ONLY option that would truly bring massive change. Hotter summers & colder winters mean people are NOT going to give up their cooling & heating options. We have to understand that. Its reality. But the loudest protests get the news, so thats the way it is.

CEO was interviewed somewhere. Intel plans to be carbon neutral by 2030, and then aims to reduce emissions through some gadget they're working on that will pull CO2 out of the air. They aim to reclaim all of the carbon Intel has ever emitted. Bold, unbelievable, but hey it's a goal.

when the whole world is hellbent on electing anti-intellectual bullies to all the top offices?

as long as Trump as is occupying the White House. In fact, things will go backwards - removal of fuel economy standards, rollback on LED and LCD lightbulbs, etc.

309: The number of private jets that flew into two Davos-area airports during the 2019 conference.

Davos attendees are frequently criticized for flying across the globe on private jets to discuss the perils of climate change, CNN Business reported. "I think it's very insane and weird that people come here in private jets to discuss climate change. It's not reasonable," Thunberg told CNN at Davos in 2019.

We are headed into what the sci-fi writer William Gibson has dubbed "the jackpot". There is going to be a massive die off. I guess the rich bastards think they can ride it out and live in their protected enclaves with robotic slaves to tend to their needs.
