White House has issued formal threat to Bolton to keep him from publishing book
Source: CNN
Washington (CNN)The White House has issued a formal threat to former national security adviser John Bolton to keep him from publishing his book, "The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir," sources familiar with the matter tell CNN.
The White House had no comment. Neither Bolton nor a spokesman for the publisher, Simon & Schuster, responded to a request for comment.
The letter comes in the midst of President Donald Trump attacking Bolton on Twitter, and Bolton's lawyer accusing the White House of corrupting the vetting process for Bolton's book by sharing the contents of the book with those outside the National Security Council's Records Management Division.

(5,268 posts)Bolton associates undoubtedly coordinated the leaks to NY Times knowing this would happen and they had to leak info before a formal letter was issued.
I had been thinking that it would be ridiculously unfair for Hunter Biden to testify only for WH to totally block Bolton if he was subpoened

(789 posts)which pretty well lines up with obstruction charges, since the (mal-)administration had possession of the manuscript for at least 3 weeks prior to that, and the 23rd coincides with the outpouring of new information, fueling calls for witnesses.

(22,025 posts)Simon & Schuster should go ahead and publish Bolton's book. Let the Trump administration try to bring a lawsuit against the publisher. Trump won't do it because he can't win in court. His claims of national security will not hold up.
Something about the Pentagon Papers is tingling in the back of my memory...

(81,197 posts)Especially if he wants to clear any doubt that he's got a new book full of classified information he's supposedly spilling the beans about.
Nicolle Wallace made a very good point about this. John Bolton has written SIX books. All vetted and pronounced clean and clear for publishing. She said Bolton knows better than to blab classified info when he's writing a book. Besides, as the old saying points out: "this ain't his first rodeo."

(23,083 posts)People were saying, how can he (drumpf) do that and the answer is he will try anything and the Justice Dept. will back him up because Barr thinks drumpf is functionally a king. Of course drumpf is going to classify as top secret his & his co-conspirators treason & criminality. Since drumpf is such an asshole & always leaks like a sieve, there are numerous people with copies of the manuscript and they could just release them. Someone who has them is leaking already, so wouldn't they leak it all? I think that would be perfect because the truth gets out and stache doesn't profit.
