Republicans Now Say Trump Did What He Was Accused Of -- They Just Don't Care

Source: buzzfeed

"Just because actions meet a standard of impeachment does not mean it is in the best interest of the country to remove a President from office."

WASHINGTON — After days of arguments and questioning in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, many Republican senators have come to the same conclusion: The president did it, and they don’t care.

.....................................

Democrats in both the House and Senate now want to subpoena additional witnesses after reports that former national security adviser John Bolton, acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, and White House Counsel Pat Cipollone have firsthand knowledge of the request. But Senate Republicans, now in their second week of a trial to convict the president, think Trump should stay put no matter what.

Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee posted a 15-tweet thread Thursday night calling the president’s handling of aid to Ukraine “inappropriate,” acknowledging that Democrats had proven Trump did exactly what he was accused of — but, he said, it’s not impeachable.

.....................
.....................

But, Alexander argued, even if the president did it, the decision of what to do about it should be left to voters in the 2020 election. .......................

Alexander wasn’t alone in that opinion. “Just because actions meet a standard of impeachment does not mean it is in the best interest of the country to remove a President from office,” Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida said in a statement Friday.

Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio echoed that line, saying in a statement of his own,...................

Next Monday the Senate is not even going to deliberate like normal juries do. They all will have chance to get up on the senate floor and chat why they voted such and such.

So, lying about a blowjob is an impeachable offense but extorting a foreign nation to interfere in our elections is perfectly fine.

Plus it should be used against ever Republican Senator and point out how they are now co-conspirators to his act.

It's important - now that their glorious leader is safe, for them to state frequently that he did it. This stops the Dems using it as a hammer to hit him with. It is a method of "normalizing" his criminality - we have seen it before, every time he gets caught doing something, he will conspicuously come out and do it again, as a way of demonstrating that his deeds were normal and acceptable - ie, get caught asking Russia for help - coming out and asking China and Korea too.

What the Dems use rely on instead is the reminder that Trump payed in a rigged system. Not only were witnesses on hand and refused time to speak, but Nunes in the congressional stage and Cippollone, were both bad actors and were posing as lawyers, fighting claims of a situation that they had both witnessed and new to be true - Nunes abusive nature towards witnesses is doubly shocking, because of that.

Hopefully Cippollone will face some censure from the bar. Preferably disbarment.

That is the message Dems will have to try and keep on track, but good luck keeping the attention of the american public until November. I think this will be made harder fo Dems, since i don't believe that Trump will take part in any presidential debates. The groundwork roflcopters this is being laid already, with Trump claiming that he is unhappy with the debate format and mediation.

Not that they really care about it right now and all, but at some point in the future somebody will think it's cute to call Democrats corrupt because election mudslinging is fun, and they might start edging over to the idea, but NOPE. That little toy is gone. They threw it away on purpose, with gusto, so they can't have it anymore. Ever.

Too bad.
