Pelosi: 'Sad' to see McConnell 'humiliate' Roberts at impeachment trial

Source: nbc news

The speaker wrote on Twitter that the Senate majority leader had forced the chief justice into "presiding over a vote which rejected our nation’s judicial norms."

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., had humiliated Chief Justice John Roberts in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial by voting against any additional witness testimony.

“It is a sad day for America to see Senator McConnell humiliate the Chief Justice of the United States into presiding over a vote which rejected our nation’s judicial norms, precedents and institutions which uphold the Constitution and the rule of law,” Pelosi wrote on Twitter Saturday morning.

On Friday, the Senate rejected a vote, 51-49, to subpoena additional witnesses in the impeachment trial. Republican Sens. Mitt Romney of Utah and Susan Collins of Maine broke from their party to vote with Democrats.

Trump’s impeachment trial will be the first in U.S. history that does not include witness testimony as part of the proceedings........................

and about the stolen SC seat. ALL the justices should have spoken out about the stolen seat and refused to continue as usual - there’s nothing “supreme” about the partisans on the court.

will cause shock waves across Capital Hill, watch and see. Moscow Mitch and the Orange Anus were counting on Roberts to be their back stop knowing full well they need him to secure their Political Agenda.

The Speaker will still be around after the Next Election where as the Orange Anus will be gone and possible Moscow Mitch that depending on the Dem ground game in Kentucky.

And the Speaker controls the Purse Strings of Government via the Budget Process and all these stories popping up about the Orange Anus playing games with the Budgeted Funds, well, that too will come back to haunt each and every Rethug in the Nation.

This is the line in the sand for the 9 month march to election day. Speaker Pelosi is giving Americans - Democrats anyway - their marching orders. We must define and excise all who do not support the Constitution and the Rule of Law.

no problem at all for him to preside over the phony trial cooked up by the Senate republicans.

Pelosi is telling Roberts that he humiliated himself by being a willing participant in the sham proceedings.

Including Trump. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. McConnell could just as easily of finished Trump off, but his shamelessness, stupidity and enthusiasm for doing the wrong thing are useful to McConnell.
Where it gets interesting, is that Trump always rejects the suggestion that he has been helped to achieve anything. It will burn him up and he will likely resent McConnell for being the one who wielded power.
The second thing that will make it interesting is that Trump has a deep psychological need to not pay his debts. It's not unique to him, I have known a few people - wealthy people - who have the same affliction. It doesn't matter how well or fair a transaction is arranged, at the final moment they will find a loophole or pull some stunt to ensure that they have 'won'.
The combination of resentment that McConnell saved him, coupled with the he need to 'come out on top' is going to make this a very fractious relationship. - so let's all of us heap praise on McConnell for saving Trump, it will drive him insane

endlessly rant and rave in Congress about the injustices being done to him. If we all know rump as well as we do, this is got to rankle him somewhat, being that he didn't get to open his mouth one bit in Congress while they were debating the impeachment proceedings, etc.

Your remarks about wealth and how such people act w/ such wealth is a good one. Besides not paying their debts and bragging about their business acumen, they like to brag to others about their amount of their wealth, are resentful of others who have more or have actually earned it (the wealth). Another point I would like to make, is that when is enough, enough (wealth)? Apparently never.

But I assume that's for political reasons as it's generally not a good idea to pick a fight with Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and it puts all the blame on McConnell. Reality though is that a great deal of blame for the state we're in falls squarely on Roberts' shoulders.

He may have looked uncomfortable because he is used to presiding over legal trials with set and standard Federal Rules of Criminal or Civil Procedures. An impeachment trial is a “political” exercise of Congressional as opposed to Judicial powers.

The rules of procedure are those established by the Senate for that trial and not subject to the authority of the Chief Justice. He simply enforces the rules he is given. If the Senate votes on a question under the rules of the Senate that’s pretty much the end of it.

An impeachment trial is run according to how the Senate says it will run. He has virtually nothing to do 99% of the time. He hardly even needs to pay close attention most of the time.

He would probably not interfere or interject his thoughts into the workings or disputes either within or between the other two branches. I sincerely doubt any other Justice of the Supreme Court would have acted any different.

I don’t think Roberts was humiliated in any way. He behaved as tradition and precedent demanded.

Any humiliation belongs to those who established the rules and decided the questions and issues as they arose. The at least 51 votes.
