2 leaders of Democratic convention host committee fired

Source: AP

By SCOTT BAUER

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The two leaders of Milwaukee’s host committee for the 2020 Democratic National Convention were fired late Tuesday amid allegations that they oversaw a toxic work environment, a dramatic shakeup less than six months before the showcase political event in swing state Wisconsin.

The host committee board issued a statement saying that the group’s president, Liz Gilbert, and its chief of staff, Adam Alonso, were no longer employed by the organization effective immediately. The firings came a day after Gilbert and Alonso were placed on leave pending an investigation.

Gilbert and Alonso did not immediately return messages Tuesday seeking comment.

“Every employee has a right to feel respected in their workplace,” the committee board said. “Based on the information we have learned to date, we believe the work environment did not meet the ideals and expectations of the Milwaukee 2020 Host Committee Board of Directors.”

Instead of enabling them, you ditch them before they become too powerful.

I approve.

... but I see no evidence that either of the two people who were fired lost their jobs for lack of purity. It looks like a case of conflicting management styles (and/or just poor management) to me.

Rather than simply firing a couple of sexist pigs?

And, if it was in fact a "purge" as you allege, what are the relevant and negative effects the firing of the two will have on the Democratic campaign to retake the White House as you imply?

Dunno what your work experience has been, but I have had the experience of a hostile work environment. I was left with all number of physical issues because of the extended exposure to working conditions that enabled threats of violence and retribution as well as actual threatening activities outside the workplace. One example was finding a knife broken off in my tire, another was finding our work vehicle vandalized in the parking lot. Every day would begin with a forced "conversation" about who was a target of his and who I was supposed to target for him... When I finally spoke out about it to the people responsible for HR, I became an even bigger target.

Abuse in the workplace is no joke, and it isn't a matter of some histrionic primadonna throwing a fit about a bad day in the office.

"Moral Purity" as you call it is not a political matter, it is basic civility and a legitimate workplace concern for any employee. I'd strongly urge you to educate yourself about the issue before you make the mistake of dismissing it.

People were let go for doing a bad job, why is it front page news? This happens all the time.

I would also add that post #2 has the letter explaining the problems
They were let go because they earned the dismissal for their behavior
There was no purity.
This was about their horrible behavior
That's not moral purity
Unless, you are arguing that horrible people treating people horribly should be ignored
And, do you honestly believe this wouldn't have gotten out eventually?

Other than the obvious zero tolerence policy any workplace should have towards their behaviour, the sooner you get rid of people like this, the less likely it makes headlines during their primaries (or around November).

What you said is disgusting and reprehensible.

If they were fired simply because of a single letter without any investigation, then I'd agree with you. However, it sounds as if there was an investigation and they found there was validity to the claims in the letter. Now, if you have information that the investigation wasn't done or wasn't done properly, then I'm sure we'd all like to hear about that.
