First American Dies of Coronavirus, Raising Questions About U.S. Response

Source: New York Times

SHANGHAI — A United States citizen died from the coronavirus in Wuhan, China, American officials said on Saturday. It was the first known American death from the illness, and was likely to add to diplomatic friction over Beijing’s response to the epidemic.

The death is also certain to raise questions over whether the Trump administration and the State Department in particular have taken sufficient action to ensure the safety of Americans in China and to aid in the evacuation of those who want to leave.

In a statement, the State Department took a defensive tone, saying that since Jan. 29, it had evacuated around 850 people, most of them Americans, on five charter flights out of Wuhan.

The agency said it had “no higher priority than the welfare and safety of U.S. citizens abroad,” but there are no current plans to conduct additional evacuation flights, even as some Americans in other parts of China have been asking for the United States government to evacuate them.

the CDC workers weren't even wearing masks, or any bio gear whatsoever....I'm dismayed to say the least.
And they just let them all get off, minus the few with symptoms...this couldn't be happening at a worse time.😳

Cause a crippling national emergency by incompetence, then declare Martial Law and cancel the election.

Please, someone walk me back!

They’ll certainly be able to come up with something else, I’m afraid.

I’m not saying it’s right; however that’s been the case as long as I can remember.

When we travel internationally; generally our insurance covers my wife and I on any State Department evacuation.

13. The State Dept evacuates embassy personnel for free under a contract

The contractor is allowed to charge the going rate that was prevalent BEFORE the emergency began for empty seats.

The contractor was price gouging and charged $1,000 a seat. So he is getting paid to fly to the embassy and back no matter who is on the flight then he charged $1,000 each for all the empty seats. You could get a round trip ticket for about $400 with a little planning. I would file a claim against the contractor if I had to pay $1,000. They were violating the law.

The US embassy is notorious for abandoning American citizens in foreign countries. If you need help while in a foreign country, the rumor mill says go to the British embassy. They would help you while the US embassy would be of little help.
