Marie Yovanovitch Warns State Department 'Is In Trouble,' Says Its Leaders Lack 'Moral Clarity'

Source: TPM

Former Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch issued a grim warning on Wednesday night during her first public appearance since her blockbuster hearing in the House’s impeachment investigation into President Donald Trump.

“We need a vigorous Department of State, but right now the State Department is in trouble,” Yovanovitch said as she was accepting a Trainor Award for “Excellence in the Conduct of Diplomacy” at Georgetown University.

“Senior leaders lack policy vision, moral clarity and leadership skills,” she continued. “The policy process has been replaced by decisions emanating from the top with little discussion.”

The diplomat said that as the department is “being hollowed out from within,” its officers “are increasingly wondering whether it is safe to express concerns about policy even behind closed doors.”

“This is no time to undercut our diplomats,” she warned.......................

They are extracting oil & gas at record breaking pace. Burning all that stuff will certainly bring on more rapid climate change. And Trump has gifted the top 10% with 90% of tax cuts. If Trump gets re-elected, the whole country is screwed, not just the government.

I foresee nothing but disaster for the country if he is re-elected. We are screwed anyway because of the climate no matter who is elected.

The biggest polluters in the world, China & India are not cooperating to curb burning fossil fuels.
China was building one coal burning power plant EVERY WEEK in very recent data. How many of us have stopped buying made in China goods? When we buy anything from China or India, we are in reality promoting climate change.

The GOP could completely change the direction on the lack of action on the climate crisis but they deny and obstruct. The only explanation I can think of, that the rich keep voting for them, is that the 1% think they are insulated against climate change. And maybe they are. Maybe Antarctica and the northern regions will become enclaves for the rich, while the rest of us die in floods and drought. Then they can reclaim what habitable land is left when the eaters are gone.

It will be interesting to see what northern state MAGAs do when the migrants in their communities are no longer brown people who speak a foreign language or have a different religion, but fellow white, Christian Americans from southern states that aren't habitable year round. Or out of water. People think that can't happen even as it's happening.

It's not looking good for the human race. We may survive, but we are getting knocked down a few pegs. Maybe a lot of pegs.

But it's good to have it confirmed by such a reliable source. She is top notch.
