United and American push back expected return of Boeing Max

CHICAGO (AP) United Airlines and American Airlines said Friday they are removing the grounded Boeing 737 Max from their schedules longer than previously planned, which means thousands more flights will be canceled during the peak summer travel season.
The reduction in flights could mean slightly higher fares.
United said it took the plane out of its schedule until at least Sept. 4. It had 14 Max jets when they were grounded, but expected to be flying more of them by now. The Chicago-based airline said it will scrap 80 flights a day about 2,500 a month over the summer.
American followed a few hours later by saying it wont use the plane until Aug. 18 more than two months beyond its previous target of returning the plane in early June. American said it acted in response to the latest guidance from Boeing and safety regulators.

(12,531 posts)Nobody is going to want to fly that jet again. I wont want to. And i'll make it known to Delta (which is who i almost always use). Its simply taking too long to fix; which makes too many people think it CANT be fixed.
Give the carriers credits on a new different model, or other models of equal current value, or some such compromise. But they need to get it over with and out of the way
Otherwise, its going to fester and eventually people wont trust ANY Boeing aircraft and THAT would be a national nightmare. There are tens of thousands (if not more) jobs tied to Boeing production. Other companies that supply them, not just Boeing.

(949 posts)I let United know this. It never should have been designed the way it was. Faulty design process from the get-go.

(945 posts)I just do not see how the 737 MAX can be bought back into service with any confidence. And, God forbid, another disaster happens once it is bought back into service, it would be disastrous for the airline involved

(520 posts)They took Zantac off the market completely for less. If I find I'm on a MAX, I'll change my flight.
