Trump asserts coronavirus 'under control' as stocks plunge

Source: The Hill

President Trump asserted Monday that the coronavirus is “very much under control” in the United States, even as stock markets plunged amid concerns about the spread of the virus.

“The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA. We are in contact with everyone and all relevant countries,” Trump, who is traveling on official business in India, tweeted. “CDC & World Health have been working hard and very smart. Stock Market starting to look very good to me!”

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1,031 points on Monday, one of its largest single-day drops in terms of points, as concerns rose about the spread of the coronavirus beyond China.

Trump has sought to project confidence in the steps his administration has taken to contain and mitigate the outbreak as cases are reported in the U.S. and at times has seemed to downplay the threat.

The White House is expected to ask Congress for emergency funding to combat the virus.

White House principal deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley told reporters:
“The president’s concerns are always the safety and security of the American people, and so in this instance, because he has taken such aggressive action, because he does continue to receive briefings on a daily basis, he just wants to ensure the spread of this virus does not move quickly in this country at all,”.

And if it is brought under control, it'll certainly not be thanks to him that's for sure.

The Fat Bastard, as you know, has cut deeply into much of the funding needed to take on epidemics - apparently because his henchmen tell him it'll bring on the "rapture."

Interesting times, right?

No, it's in no way under control. Two major Asian markets are shutting down because of it, and that boob has no idea about why it's happening or what it will do to the world economy. He just knows people aren't falling dead in the street here, so everything's OK, folks.

WHO thinks we're looking at a pandemic. It's going to be fun here in the USA with the best health care in the world that few can afford to use.

The fatality rate as of yesterday afternoon was 3.1%. That's not the problem The Big Dummy and his cadre of yes men who won't tell him the truth about the world economy is the problem.

religious nuts to blame everything including the kitchen sink, if and when this virus runs amok (and rump and cronies are saying that it's under control?)...if there is any blame, it's the tendency for rump's cowardly cronies to stick their head in the sand and not speak out, when rump says the virus is taken care of, nothing to worry about, when it's a bald-faced lie.

The truth of the matter is that we have barely scratched the surface with this virus and none of rump's people have the courage (except the CDC) to say this virus is not under 'control' etc. This will point directly to one and only one person in the room who failed in doing his duty...rump.

Get out! GET OUT! RUN FOR THE HILLS!

Like when they tell you the fundamentals of the economy are strong. No, they're not. You cannot run up endless deficits, paying for wars and programs on a credit card.

He's looking at the stock market, as it suddenly dawns on him that the world economy could be hit hard. He's an idiot. He's more concerned about his election rallies and how he can confuse the public.

If he's at all worried, it's whether the virus can get into the WH and kill off some of his evil henchmen. Oops, he's not really worried about them at all...

We keep getting told that if we question what we are told about this virus, we are fearmongerers. No, we're not.

And, this is the prick who is closing medical facilities to retirees, family members, etc. and reducing access. He WANTS people in blue states to die. He doesn't care about the American public.

He sat and rotated on his thumbs, while listening to Xi and denigrating his own officials, ridiculed scientists, and then claimed he was himself a hero, working on saving the public. What rubbish. He thinks the sun is going to shine on his orange ass and save him.

We're on our own.

Prior to that, he has zero cares to give beyond the potential impact on the stock market and himself.

Be calm and distracted is his message. Meanwhile, he's defunding the CDC, WHO and has upheld the GOP's plans to kill the ACA to date. Healthcare and the overall health of US citizens has been not an issue for his administration. They played kick the can up until now when the shit is getting real.

My question is: what will happen if we end up with a pandemic here? What infrastructure do we have in place to hospitalize, test, monitor quarantined citizens and manage such an event?

Think about it. It's a real possibility at this point and we're not even close to being prepared. We've been sitting on our hands whistling past the graveyard to date.

P.S. MERS is also a coronavirus. They don't all become less prevalent in higher temperatures. We don't know for sure how this one will react yet. No one knows for sure. Even if it does slow in the northern hemisphere when it warms, all signs currently point to it making a return in the fall.

inside China and out to other countries despite their best efforts, only a fool would say it's 'under control'.
The same fool might even go full denial and say the stock market is looking good.

But yes, it's Trump. Say no more. Meaningless words to placate the faithful.

A future moment? Stepping over dead bodies in the street, Trump says they don't exist, so not a problem, just don't trip over them. OK?
