White House seeks $2.5B for coronavirus, but Pelosi says that's not enough

Source: NBC News

Pelosi, D-California, said in a statement that the administration's request is “is long overdue and completely inadequate to the scale of this emergency.”

She also accused the Trump administration of leaving vacant critical positions at the National Security Council and Department of Homeland Security.

"And now, the president is compounding our vulnerabilities by seeking to ransack funds still needed to keep Ebola in check," Pelosi said.

"The president should not be raiding money that Congress has appropriated for other life-or-death public health priorities," she said, suggesting that the House would move forward with its own plan.

We're nowhere close to prepared for the potential fallout here. We don't have adequate hospital beds, an infrastructure to monitor quarantined citizens or a fully funded CDC able to step up and lead when they're needed. The CDC cannot even begin to test at a rate needed to help contain the virus at this point if it does become a pandemic here. They simply do not have the resources.

We're not even close to prepared, even with all the warnings we've had. We have no real viable plan.

Guess a tanking stock market, the threat of a looming recession, and the possibility of losing the election finally convinced them to address the pressing medical situation that's been developing for weeks. Good to see their priorities at least reflect the real world, even if they don't try to actually deal with it.

for coronavirus, that would take money better spent for his fence. He is king now so just asking for money for coronavirus should get the market back up which is his real concern. If coronavirus hit the US and caused many deaths it would be ok if it helped him win reelection.

Would be a prompt stoppage of international air travel and a request for people to restrict voluntary travel.

There are bad actors in this world (e.g., Iran) where the virus is rampant. Iran WILL infect healthy people (probably nationals of countries that can travel here freely who volunteer) and then who intentionally spread the virus all over.

It's like a free nuclear weapon.
