The House Oversight Committee revealed Wednesday new information about how local election officials in Kansas botched the relocation of a polling place that put Dodge Citys single site for voting at a location more than a mile from the nearest bus stop.
The move by Ford County in 2018 to move the citys sole polling place outside city limits prompted an ACLU lawsuit and national controversy, particularly because the citys population is 60 percent Hispanic and the new location was not accessible by public transport or even sidewalk.
The move also prompted an investigation from the newly Democratic controlled House Oversight Committee, which also released on Wednesday details of parallel investigations into voting rights debacles in Texas and Georgia.
According to an update to those investigations the committee unveiled Wednesday, Ford County Clerk Debbie Cox dismissed concerns about how the relocation would affect voters, particularly those who dont drive.

Not an error. The GOP cheats in elections. It is an important part of their strategy.

(12,503 posts)so we know they're republican? That way if they collapse on the sidewalk in front of me, I'll be able to decide quickly whether to administer CPR, or just walk around them yelling at them for blocking the sidewalk.
I remember reading this story last year. These Trumpies are irredeemable.

(6,699 posts)If not, this would be a great opportunity for someone(s) to shuttle people to the new voting location.
Now, before you jump all over my backside, let me clarify AGAIN...I'm not suggesting we should be content and let this crap slide. I'm just saying, if they get away with this manipulation of voters exercising their Constitutional right....then a possible answer would be people shuttling voters around...from house to precinct, from locations discontinued to the new polling place. We have to be prepared to fight these SOB's at their own game.

(22,250 posts)This would result in 3 or more people at once requiring curbside voting.
As an election judge, I would go to confession, take communion, rend my garments, wear ashes and sackcloth and face Mecca to avoid even one curbside voter. The procedure is a frickin nightmare. It is so awful I can't even begin to describe it. It takes two poll workers and more than one trip from the car to the voting table and back.

and a fact finder article https://www.usnews.com/news/politics/articles/2019-05-09/not-real-news-texas-bill-wont-ban-van-pools-to-polls
I thought it was van loads of any kind, so I am very glad to know that is not the case. Whenever I have had a curbside voter, I gently remind them they can request a vote by mail application.

(15,319 posts)Next time Dems are in charge, close every polling place in the Dumbfuckistan sections of the state and require MAGAts to have to travel 4 hours to their polling station in a gay bar.
Then when they show up tell them; "sorry, we didn't think to make sure we had extension cords for the voting machines.

(22,250 posts)Election Judges have the same authority as a District Judge,so we have the authority to detain someone, and I personally would have law enforcement in there so fast it would make your head spin.
We have big signs posted all over the room: no firearms, no alcohol, and no cellphones or picture taking. You want to take photos of your kid's first vote? Do it outside.

US House (Kansan seats) 3 / 4
Statewide offices 4 / 6
Seats in the Kansas Senate 28 / 40
Seats in the Kansas House 84 / 125
Because as been said here many a time...a conservative in this country is leashed to the wealthy who really hate paying taxes to support social programs...So they cheat..worthless bastards..

(2,227 posts)should have immediately leased two buses that would run, non-stop, in a circle from the bus stop to the polling place, and back. Then they should have made sure EVERYONE knew about it.
It would have done two things, gotten people to the polls to vote, and broadcasted that the democratic party was NOT going to tolerate this shit.

(6,931 posts)That dirty trick BS by that Republican and her party BACKFIRED big time as Laura Kelly was elected as Gov of Kansas. That being said that "person" should have done JAIL time for that stunt. They showed the facility where the voting should have taken place on election day and there wasn't ANY construction going on. There was a bobcat parked about 500 feet away just for show.

(6,011 posts)I live in Kane County, IL. It's adjacent to Cook County, where Chicago is.
Kane is run by moderate Republicans. However, they run a squeaky clean election here so far. I've seen it from the inside, as an Election Judge. This area was a bit Redder when I arrived 20 years ago. It's very Purple here now, and trending Blue. There will probably always be a strong Republican presence in the county government, because they get things done, and there are plenty of GOP voters.. It works very well. We're lucky here.
One thing's for certain. Even among GOP voters around here, Trump is no longer welcome.
