Manhattan DA Cy Vance files brief in Supreme Court Case seeking Trump's tax records

Source: New York Daily News

The Manhattan District Attorney’s office is pressing the Supreme Court to enforce a grand jury subpoena for President Trump’s financial and tax records amid a probe of crimes allegedly committed before he moved into the White House.

In a brief filed Wednesday, prosecutors argued that shielding Trump from investigations of his private financial dealings pre-Oval Office will set a dangerous precedent that runs contrary to “the bedrock principle that no person is above the law.”

The memo further adds Trump’s lawyers “failed” to prove the subpoena would interfere with his presidential duties.

“The grand jury is conducting an investigation into potential criminal conduct by multiple individuals and corporate entities, and its gathering of information does not intrude on (Trump’s) ability to perform his official duties,” the brief states.

After two lower courts ruled against Trump’s bid to quash a August 2019 subpoena Vance’s office served on Mazars USA, the president’s longtime accounting firm, Trump took the case to the Supreme Court in November.

In December, the high court announced it will hear oral arguments in March related to the probe of citizen Trump’s alleged financial and tax-related crimes. SCOTUS will also hear two other cases related to Trump’s records brought by the House Oversight Committee.

Trump’s lawyers have argued as long as he’s president, he, his business and associates are immune from having to provide evidence of private and possible criminal acts that predate his presidential stint. Vance’s lawyers counter Trump doesn’t have immunity from a subpoena for documents unrelated to his presidency..........................................

My first time voting was 1980. The friendly, smiling, actual Christian, Jimmy Carter vs. the old dude who wanted to slaughter college students in CA. The one who could have learned something from Bonzo while making a movie. The only president in history to be divorced (ahem).

Gee, which one should I choose?

I attended art school in NYC and when Reagun was shot my fellow students were glad. We may have been young but we knew what was right and what was wrong and Reagun was just plain wrong on every level. We all hated him at college, naturally.

This was followed by 12 GOP years. My life sucked as far as jobs and income goes mainly due to them and their policies.

Hinckley proved he was nuts by aiming where Reagan's heart would have been if he had one.

All you really need to know about Ronnie is that he switched from our party when JFK was elected.

I have learned that many "old" movie stars switched to the GOP after ahving been Dem for most of their lives and most switched after the 1960s for some reason. You would think that Nixon would have made them more determined to remain a Dem. Nixon did good?

Due to GE Theater.

When Reagan was in movies and it was his wallet he was a Democratic Union Leader.

When he was President he gave huge tax cuts to the wealthy and began the destruction of the Unions by firing the Air Traffic Controllers Union!

Sorry I just read a long article about how many millions Trump and Republican Senators gave themselves with the tax bill. It was riddled with carve outs. Ron Johnson was one who made millions.

His plastics business comes from his wife's family money. Now he's parlayed that into his own fortune.

Pretty slick for a mediocre guy with a 2-digit IQ.

He is not the only Senator abusing his position at tax payer expense. Grassley won big time in the farm bailout. Many won in the stock buy backs.

I usually refer to Grassley as a fossil, but I'm more gentle in my criticism of him.

He sort of defended the whistleblower by saying he once was one himself. I think it went back to the first time I heard his name when he told the media about his finding of the $600 hammer and the $800 toilet seat that the Pentagon had purchased.

Of course, he was 30 years younger and taking his meds.

With Grassley is that he was one of 3 who held up the ACA for 2 weeks until they worried it would not pass. Cost us single payer. Baucus and Lieberman. Grassley then came out voted against the bill.

On a good note he co sponsored the OTC bill for Hearing AIDS.

What was Gore thinking? There was a country full of other choices for running mates. The press said Clinton's impeachment was to blame for the loss (it was Florida's Sec of State's fault), but Clinton's popularity went up after it. Lieberman's demeanor changed after losing his primary in CT and seemed to hate his former party, our party.

And Baucus was from Montana--about as red as you can get in the north.

At least these two aren't in active politics anymore, but we're stuck with 472-year old Chuck Grassley, who calls Mitch "Pops".

Health Insurance lobbyist. Joe became one. Max left right after to become an Ambassador.

Gore chose the sanctimonious route. Bad mistake, Clinton became more popular than ever.

I just heard a Trump voter say,”it is all about the money. If the Stock Market goes down I will not vote for Trump!” Pure greed.

One question: Do they use the cross to light the Tiki torches or the other way around? This could inspire some kind of Redneck Olympics.
