Judge: Trump Administration can't take $89m from Bangor pier project for border wall

Funding for an $89 million pier improvement project at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor can't be diverted to the Trump Administration's efforts to bolster the wall on the southern U.S. border, a federal judge ruled Thursday.
Congress intended the money for military spending and had set its own limit on how much the border wall should get, Judge Barbara Rothstein said, in a ruling in favor for Attorney General Bob Fergusons September 2019 lawsuit that challenged removing the funds.
"This judgment is an important victory for the rule of law, and the system of checks and balances our founders enshrined in our Constitution," Ferguson said. "Were looking forward to this $89 million being used the way Congress intended to support a military construction project in Washington state.
The Bangor project will build a new pier, boat maintenance facility and fueling station for vessels that provide security for the country's ballistic missile submarines. Eight of the country's 14 nuclear-tipped Ohio class subs are home at Bangor. Ferguson had argued the importance of safeguarding the Trident program in court.

(70,214 posts)...........A total of 127 projects totalling $3.6 billion had been diverted for funds, and Ferguson's office had argued that all should be "enjoined" and have their funding restored. But the judge's ruling was narrow in scope, just covering the Bangor project.
The pier project is one of two at Bangor. Another $89 million project will extend a pier on Hood Canal so that the country's three Seawolf-class submarines can dock together. Construction on the project is slated to start soon.

(12,213 posts)I don't believe the bullshit that he won't leave office if he loses. I think, if anything, the GOP and Trump will try to claim issues with the election and send endless crap to the courts (where they have appointed judges), and prolong the agony. Hopefully, we can get the largest voter outcome in U.S. history, and send these fucking traitors' heads spinning with the loss.
