Democrat Flips State House Seat In New Hampshire Special Election

Kathleen Martins, a Democrat, will be replacing the late Rep. Dick Marple (R) and serving in the House of Representatives until elections in November.
A Democrat beat a Republican in a special election race in the historically red town of Hooksett, New Hampshire, to fill a seat in the states House of Representatives.
The New Hampshire House Democratic Caucus announced Kathleen Martins victory over Republican Elliot Axelman on Tuesday night.
The Republican who held the seat, state Rep. Dick Marple, died in December. Martins will serve the remainder of his term until elections are held again in November.

Martins was predicted to win 1,000 votes to Axelmans 961, according to an unofficial tally by WMUR-TV.
Democrats hold the majority in the New Hampshire House of Representatives.*

(50,557 posts)Marple was a sovereign citizen who went to the statehouse to repeal the driver's license laws. And that's all he ever would do. He didn't vote on or co-sponsor any legislation other than his quixotic driver's license repeal the entire time he was there.
