BA, Easyjet and Ryanair ground most flights as shares dive

Britain’s three busiest airlines — British Airways, Easyjet and Ryanair — have announced mass groundings of their aircraft which will see the vast majority of their scheduled services not flown in April and May.

That news plus a growing number of travel restrictions around Europe and the world because of the coronavirus pandemic, sent airline stocks plummeting once more.

Ryanair, which is Europe’s busiest airline and the favoured choice of many travellers looking for the cheapest, lowest service option, had been expecting to handle 150 million passengers this year. It accounts for more than two thirds of services at Stansted, London’s third airport.
