(CNN)Opera legend Placido Domingo has been hospitalized in Acapulco, Mexico, with complications related to coronavirus, according to the singer's spokesperson.

"He is doing well and is responding to treatment," Domingo's spokesperson said in a statement to CNN.

Domingo announced on his Facebook page last week that he had tested positive for the disease. He encouraged his fans to wash their hands and follow the guidelines and regulations that local governments have put in place.

"Together we can fight this virus and stop the current worldwide crisis, so we can hopefully return to our normal daily lives very soon," Domingo wrote.

But he’s from Spain originally. Even if he lived here in the States, none of these three places is exactly the poster child for handling COVID well.

Acapulco, however, is not a nice place these days

This is not good news because he is 79 and very high risk.

One good thing he has going for him is his lifelong profession. As an opera singer he has big lungs and a powerful diaphragm which will serve well with breathing.

I hope he makes it through this.

This disease plays hell on the lungs so if he recovers, I wonder if the power in his voice will return.

Yeah, we know their names... but what about the women, men, and children who suffer and die alone? How many migrant children in cages and concentra...I meant containment centers are dying un-named, undeclared, unrecognized, and alone are/have been/will be?

Remember, Trump in his policies and practices care as much about citizens as he cares about sea urchins.... although, he does not actually know anything about oceans and its life either.
