Trump administration won't station US troops near Canadian border

The Trump administration, in the face of strong opposition from Canada, has abandoned its plans to station U.S. troops near the Canadian border.

"We have heard this is not something they're continuing to pursue, but we will of course continue to engage with the American administration as new situations come up and as things develop," Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told an Ottawa new conference outside the Rideau Cottage, where he is in self-isolation.

The Prime Minister has been diplomatic in his language, conscious of not offending President Trump. Deputy PM Chrystia Freeland was blunt last week, saying, "We have made that opposition very very clear to our American counterparts and we will continue to do so."

The U.S. and Canada have the world's longest undefended land border, stretching from Point Roberts in Washington to Campobello Island in New Brunswick. The border continues in the north, crossed by residents who walk to a bar in Hyder, Alaska, and the 100,000-plus animals of the Porcupine Caribou herd whose migration route crosses two Canadian national parks and America's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

that he couldn't find a single Border Patrol agent that would agree to going up to the northern border.

It is really really cold, desolate and there is no one trying to come into the US from that direction.

The only thing that would make sense is using a northern border patrol to try to keep Americans in the U.S.

You have seen all those massive skyscraper hotels and residential islands being built over there. They are all luxury units. Who do you think they are building them for???????? They can live with peace and security, not care a wit about what is going on in America, vacation in Europe if the Virus ever gets controlled and live out their lives in the luxury and opulence that they feel is their standing in life.......

this was a totally idiotic stupid idea to begin with and I'm so glad it's been dropped. We need our military for real purposes, to sve lives and provide logistical help, but assmsouth refuses to do anything good for the American people.
