"...Health officials say 71 people infected with the novel coronavirus in California's Sacramento County are connected to a single church, making it one of the largest outbreak clusters in the United States.
But despite dozens falling ill, and one death, church leaders have rebuffed demands to halt gatherings, officials say...."

(8,200 posts)It is difficult to feel any compassion for those who willingly cooperate with their own destruction. It is even more troubling that the are infecting their innocent children with this type of idiocy and jeopardizing their very existence.

(5,237 posts)My neighbors may be members of that fucking church. I am done with being considerate of the beliefs of groups like this. They have been and are being extremely inconsiderate of the entire city, and have endangered the entire community with their inconsiderate practice of their ignorant beliefs.
For those not familiar with the way things work here, the church is located in Rancho Cordova, a satellite city on the edge of Sacramento. The members of that church could be flung all over the region because it is connected to a widespread cultural group. They aren't just in Rancho Cordova. They are all over the region. This is very, very bad.
I am livid!

(5,237 posts)Here's the Sacramento Bee article about this:
https://www.sacbee.com/news/coronavirus/article241715346.html?
This mentions that the church itself shut its doors, I suppose because the pastor is hospitalized with it. But they are still meeting in the homes of members for Sunday worship. Now I know why it sounded like they were having a party over there last Sunday.
They are not very friendly, and the husband doesn't speak much English, so we rarely talk to them. But their driveway is 10 feet from my house. We never go over on that side of the house, though. There's a 6 foot high double-sided redwood fence between our back yards, so we at least have a barrier there.
This totally freaks me out! Ack!

It's monstrous.
edit: Hey, AVG Internet Security just shut down a threat on that linked page. Not sure if it is a false positive for a... virus. No pun intended.

Bull fucking shit.
I've probably lived through at least 10 "end of times" prophecies, yet ALL of us are still here. You'd think someone would have noticed when a family member, friend, co-worker, neighbor, associate, complete stranger walking down the street DISAPPEARED due to the rapture....
Fucking idiots.

(31,031 posts)free will to miss church if it means saving lives and stopping the spread of a pandemic. What would Jesus say. Even Catholics have shut down masses and missing mass is a mortal sin that keeps you from going to heaven.

(53,773 posts)What can you say? Freedom allows them to believe what they want to believe. Rigid certainty makes them comfortable. Who can say they are not happier in their short stiff minds than those of us who must grapple with the complexity of reality? I would say they are being weeded out but I believe religion is a social rather than genetic influence.

(6,309 posts)I couldn't find the article in CNN but I found it on FOX News. I feel very sorry for these people. They are Russian-speaking and there is a language barrier. There are 3500 of them. Their church has stopped meeting but they don't understand the seriousness, so they are meeting in each other's homes.
