Poll: Majority of Americans now disapprove of Trump's coronavirus response

Source: Politico

Support for President Donald Trump's handling of the coronavirus pandemic has diminished over the past two weeks, according to a new survey, with a majority of Americans now disapproving of his response to the public health crisis.

An ABC News/Ipsos poll released Friday reports that 52 percent of respondents disapprove of his management of the deadly outbreak, while only 47 percent approve.

The president's latest rating in the survey shows Trump's support backsliding from the levels he achieved in mid-March, when more than half of Americans, 55 percent, approved of his response and 43 percent disapproved.

Since that previous iteration of the poll was published on March 20, the administration extended its social-distancing guidelines for another 30 days and worked to increase its testing capacity for the virus.

the 47% get a clue? I am sure the actual number is much lower, but even so, it is insane that anyone can approve of his handling of this pandemic right now.

And yes, where the hell IS Bloomberg and his promised ads?

Bullshit. It's been MONTHS for The Trumpian Death March to get testing available for ANYONE. It's vitally important for testing to be available for everyone so that we can know something about the virus other than the demographics of infection, hospitalization, intubation, ventilation, and death. We have to know WHERE IT IS in the population.

The Trumpian Death March has refused to prepare for this moment. It's not that they neglected to pay attention. They actively refused to prepare.

Trump WILL take advantage of this crisis. He's evil, people. He will walk over the piles of dead bodies to keep his power. And he'll turn this crisis into his own personal windfall profit project. Satan could not have picked a better person for the job.

Carter's approval rating went up by about 25% after the hostages were taken.
Bush's went to 90% after 9/11. 47% is a disaster for this type of thing.

With a competent President like BHO or Clinton, the rally around the flag effect would make it in the high 80's or low 90's percent.

These are disastrous numbers for a "President" and his "leadership" during a time of extreme crisis.

Select Obama in the drop down menu in this link: https://news.gallup.com/interactives/185273/presidential-job-approval-center.aspx?ref=interactive

However, GW Bush's approval rating shot up to 90% after 9/11. GHW Bush peaked at 89% after the first Gulf War, just months after his popularity took a hit after he violated his "no new taxes" pledge.

Clinton became *more* popular after the Lewinsky scandal. His year end approval rating was 56% in 1997 but was 73% at the end of 1998. (The 1995 OKC bombing and 1996 Atlanta bombing didn't give him similar boosts in popularity as the previous examples.)

I think the point was that if there were such an event, his numbers would have been much higher than Trump's. That seems reasonable.

BHO was too smart to allow a fiasco like this to happen. Oh for the good old days!

I am pretty President Clinton (the first) would have had astronomically high numbers of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.

President Clinton (the second) would have done brilliantly too, had SHE had the chance!

It seemed obvious to be that it would fall and fall rapidly - and the real plummeting is (sadly, in fact tragically for those affected) yet to come. But I didn't expect it to fall this fast. Looks like that "rally around the flag" effect some may have been concerned with didn't last very long. Go figure.
