US accused of 'modern piracy' after diversion of masks meant for Europe

Source: The Guardian

The US has been accused of “modern piracy” after reportedly diverting a shipment of masks intended for the German police, and outbidding other countries in the increasingly fraught global market for coronavirus protective equipment.

Nb. In France regional authorities have been complaining about this kind of behaviors for a couple of days, but it now appears that all the EU countries might have similar issues. It took some time to coordinate among the EU states but now it seems we will have to deal with the US, which seems problematic if even the American states themselves are not coordinating their actions with the federal authorities.

that this will all erupt into conflicts and these are end times. With this crisis on the world's hands, there really is no room to deal with any new conflict that arises. Even if it's just earthquakes, storms, hottest summer ever, power grid flame out. No slack left in global systems.

Evil, selfish, narcissistic, stupid Trump. He has aligned himself with despots and dictators and shunned our allies. Now in this time of crisis, he and his admin are actively pissing on the whole world.

You may be right in our inability to handle multiple events at one time. We used to have people in power that planned for multiple events. The national stockpile was setup to handle multiple events. Now after the deconstruction efforts of this shameless admin, it all lies in ruin. States are told to fend for themselves. It is as if there is no longer a United States of America, only a group of competing states struggling against a giant beast they created.

I myself get worried sometimes.

start paying up front and get an agreement (in writing of course) that states if the masks do not meet quality controls the masks will be returned and that the money will then be refunded.
