Surgeon general says coming week will 'be our Pearl Harbor moment, our 9/11 moment'
Source: Washington Post
U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams said Sunday that the coming week could be a national catastrophe comparable to Pearl Harbor or the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
This is going to be the hardest and saddest week of most Americans lives, quite frankly, Adams said in an appearance on Fox News. This is going to be our Pearl Harbor moment, our 9/11 moment, only its not going to be localized. Its going to be happening all over the country."
He added that the next 30 days would be critical for slowing the coronaviruss spread, noting that some early hot spots are actually starting to contain the virus.
Roughly 90 percent of the country has been implementing stay-at-home orders, Adams said, despite the absence of a federal order. Among the nine states without any formal stay-at-home orders in place are several in the Midwest, including Nebraska, North and South Dakota, and Iowa, which account for a large portion of Americas agriculture.

(3,185 posts)And if he deigns to meet with grieving families, he can hold an index card with questions like, "How do you feel?" You know, the same empathy and compassion he showed to the survivors of the Parkland shooting.
Obama cried real tears of grief and anger after the Newtown shooting, and quite a few people on the right mocked him for it. Then they turned around and gave us Dolt 45, who has probably only cried real tears in private, and only over the stock market and his personal fortunes. I imagine the only human being he'd genuinely mourn would be his darling daughter. The older one, that is. He wouldn't care about Tiffany.

(6,831 posts)C. Everett Koop, MD. Anyone remember Koop ? He was a pediatric surgeon and a public health administrator. Known for being a gruff, no-nonsence, take no prisoners, kind of guy, He didn't tolerate tiptoeing around the numbers, the facts, or what he felt the American people needed to know. He was the first MD/SG to stand up to Big Tobacco and put then on notice.
WE get Dr. Ronny ("Feelgood" Jackson and Dr. Jerome ("It's Pearl Harbor" . Bring Back Dr. Vivec Murtha or Dr. Antonia Novella, or anyone who doesn't believe that they have to fellate the orange pustule to be able to keep/perform their jobs.

(70,498 posts)Fact check: Trump tries to erase the memory of him downplaying the coronavirus
Facts First: From January until last week, Trump consistently minimized the risk the coronavirus posed to the country. He claimed to have the virus under "control," that the number of US cases would go "down, not up," that the virus might "disappear" through a "miracle" or something of the sort, that the virus might well vanish by April with the warmer weather, that the media and Democrats were overhyping the situation, and that "this is their new hoax," leaving it unclear whether he was calling the virus itself a hoax. (He later said he was talking about Democrats' coronavirus-related criticism, not the virus.)
Fact check: Trump tries to erase the memory of him downplaying the coronavirus
On Monday, Trump acknowledged that the situation is "bad," that the virus is not under control, that the country might well be heading into a recession, and that American life would not get back to normal for months. He had not made such statements before.
Trump has pointed to his late-January decision to restrict travel from China as evidence that he had always considered the situation "urgent." But he certainly had not clearly communicated that he felt such urgency.
Prior to the World Health Organization's official pandemic declaration on March 11, Trump had never told Americans that he viewed the situation as a potential pandemic. When he was asked by CNBC in an interview that aired January 22 if there were worries about a pandemic, he responded, "No. Not at all. And -- we're -- we have it totally under control. It's one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It's going to be just fine."
On March 9, Trump tweeted, "So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common Flu. It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on. At this moment there are 546 confirmed cases of CoronaVirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that!" On March 10, the day before the WHO's pandemic declaration, Trump said, "And we're prepared, and we're doing a great job with it. And it will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away."
He added: "It's really working out. And a lot of good things are going to happen."

(8,020 posts)a tree type of stuff so I only listen mainly during long Holiday weekends. We have the only hospital in the county. Its the first time I have heard real fear in the voices of emergency service personnel. The calls are starting to come in with people showing covid symptoms, even as young as 3 years old having a hard time breathing. They have set up covid tents outside the hospital. They had one problem earlier with a fox news QAnon conspiracy guy(yes, they called for people to do this) trying to take pictures to prove its all a hoax. The number of domestic disputes have skyrocketed do to everyone trapped together.
