Nurses, Lauded for Virus Efforts, Find Their Tires Slashed
Source: Bloomberg
Cortlandt, N.Y. (AP) -- Some nurses at a New York hospital who had just been lauded for their work during the coronavirus pandemic ended their stress-filled overnight shifts to find their tires had been slashed while they worked. New York state police reported that the tires of 22 vehicles were found slashed Friday morning outside New York-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt.
Daniel R. Hall, 29, was arrested on charges including criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance. Police said he had a small amount of PCP when he was arrested. Hall is due in court May 18. It's not clear whether he has an attorney who can speak for him.
Hospital officials said they would pay for the damage. We were shocked to hear of this incident, especially at this time when our employees are working tirelessly and courageously" through the COVID-19 pandemic, the officials said in a statement to the Journal News.
Before the tires were slashed, dozens of police officers and firefighters had gathered outside the hospital Thursday night to applaud the health care workers, who like their colleagues across New York state have been treating patients stricken by the coronavirus, the newspaper reported. What our hospital is focusing on today is the beautiful tribute given by our first responders last night, the hospital statement said.

I hope the nurses got some nice new tires. I hope the slasher gets some effective rehab.

(17,876 posts)Angel dust is still around. I thought it was all meth and prescription opioids now days, with meth becoming passe. I guess it's like acid, heroin and hash, it never completely goes away. As a youngster, I once saw someone high on PCP. Damn scary. Reason 157 why I never experimented with drugs. My wife has trouble getting me to take ibuprofen.

Now, I don't know what qualifies as a small amount of PCP. But I do know that if he brought some with him for tire slashing, he already wasnt thinking straight.

(5,715 posts)Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, nurses have publicly received plenty of support. But in private, many nurses are getting a different reaction.
Some of the situations nurses have shared with me have included being denied cab rides, being denied access to food establishments, some grocery places, and unfortunately child care which is so important for so many of our nurses. said the president of the BC Nurses Union, Christine Sorensen.
It appears some members of the public are frightened that nurses may be bringing COVID-19 home with them from the hospital.
