Washington, Oregon, California join pact for COVID-19 collaboration

Source: KOMO

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee has joined his counterparts in Oregon and California in creating "Western States Pact" that promises close collaboration in the continued fight against COVID-19.

"We are announcing that California, Oregon and Washington have agreed to work together on a shared approach for reopening our economies – one that identifies clear indicators for communities to restart public life and business," read a joint statement issued with Inslee, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and California Gov. Gavin Newsome.

The announcement comes a few hours after President Trump announced that he is the ultimate decision-maker for determining how and when to relax the nation's social distancing guidelines as he grows anxious to reopen the coronavirus-stricken country as soon as possible.

Governors and local leaders, who have instituted mandatory restrictions that have the force of law, have expressed concern that Trump's plan to restore normalcy will cost lives and extend the duration of the outbreak, the Associated Press reports. But the three West Coast governors says their residents' health comes firsts and being home to 1/6th of the nation's population they have an "outsized stake" in controlling the virus' spread.

They do not want to give Gov. Newsom the credit he deserves!

Where I am located there have been NO NEW CASES since April 7, 2020!

Daily COVID-19 case report for April 11:

Total number of positive cases: 50
Total number of hospitalizations: 3

Total number of people tested by Public Health Laboratory: 803

Total number of people tested by all other sources: 564
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, California Department of Public Health and commercial labs)

The Public Health Laboratory currently has a capacity of approximately 500 tests and can process about 55 samples a day with an approximate turnaround time of 48 to 72 hours.

Total new positive cases confirmed on April 11: 0

My misspelling his surname, its like they are trying to make him insignificant and are trying their very best to discredit him!

While I admittedly had my doubts about a Gov. Newsom, I voted for him knowing that he has the likes of Gov. Brown watching from behind the scenes (that is what I think anyway).

In any event, good damn job Gov!

see Trump leaving it alone. He'll have to do something that stinks to sabotage them. As stupid as it may seem, he'll totally reverse on making the governors handle it as soon as he realizes it makes him look bad.

Ecotopia founded when Northern California , Oregon and a Washington seceded from the union to create a “ stable state” ecosystem.

Written in 1975 by Ernest Callenbach they compared it to Verne, Wells, Huxley and Orwell.

Ironic these states are joining together outside of the federal government. foreshadowing this book. If we kept our federal tax dollars here we could survive economically. It took an idiot evil bastard as president to get us there.

24. Borowitz: Nation's Governors Consider Forming Country
Mon Apr 13, 2020, 05:22 PM
Apr 2020

AMERICA (The Borowitz Report)—In order to better coördinate their efforts to combat the coronavirus, the nation’s governors are considering the extraordinary step of forming a country.

The radical proposal is an unusual bipartisan effort, spearheaded by the Democratic governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, and the Republican Governor of Ohio, Mike DeWine.

“Mike and I were bidding against each other for masks and ventilators, and I was, like, ‘Mike this is crazy,’ ” Whitmer said. “ ‘It would be so much better if we just worked together and formed a country.’ ”

DeWine said that Whitmer’s proposal of creating a country out of the fifty states “made a lot of sense.”

“We’re all in agreement that it would be amazing to have a President right now,” DeWine said.

and I LOVE my GOV. Jay Inslee, you are the epitome of leadership. You and Gavin Newsom and Kate Brown have given ALL of us West Coasters hope in this dark and challenging time.

When I was in grad school, we often spoke of what it would take for the West Coast states to bond like this, and challenge the politicals. We always thought it would be reparian (water) rights, as water out here is such a complex matter - who has it, where it comes from, how it gets from point A to point B, who gets and who pays for it.

But COVID-19 certainly has the ability to fracture this nation like nothing before. I believe that when all of this is over, the fissures sown by the administration are going to lay the groundwork for a very un-United States.

87% of the land in Nevada is owned by the Federal government.

Until such time as the NV Gaming Commission is on board to break the status quo, it won't happen.

Any Nevadans care to weigh in ?

...because it’s so dependent on tourism, and most definitely not only that coming from west coast states by car.

I think that around 30% of all residents of Las Vegas are employed, directly or indirectly, by the tourism industry. They’re currently taking a beating unlike California, Oregon, or Washington, all of whom are based on industries that don’t require people to visit on vacation. Nevada needs tourists to survive – and I suspect that, if there was ever a showdown between the governor and 45’s claimed “absolute” authority to reopen the country, most Nevadans would enthusiastically side with the latter.
