BRIAN DENNEHY
DEAD AT 81
Brian Dennehy -- the veteran actor whose career spanned 5 decades on the stage and screen -- has died ... TMZ has learned.
Law enforcement sources tell us Dennehy died Wednesday night in Connecticut ... we're told he passed of natural causes and there will not be an official autopsy.
The actor's career began in the '70s with a run of small guest roles on TV shows like "Kojak," "M*A*S*H," "Lou Grant" and "Dallas" ... before landing a recurring role on "Dynasty" in 1981.

(34,195 posts)... his performance as John Wayne Gacy in To Catch a Killer.
Gacy was such a despicable murderer that afterwards I always thought of Gacy when I saw Brian Dennehy.

(4,434 posts)The later film Gacy (2003) starring Mark Holton was much better cast and quite realistic.
I think that was the only film of Dennehy's that I didn't like.

(168,674 posts)and as a character actor, I would see him pop up often during the 80s.
Good character actors usually have steady work and he had quite a resume of appearances!

(8,780 posts)When he was on the screen, he dominated. I always had a crush on him.
lunatica
(53,410 posts)He was a gifted actor who could make you totally believe he was an evil character. He had a definite presence that dominated the screen. His facial movements filled out his characters to perfection. One raise of his eyebrow spoke volumes of evilness that mere words could never depict. He also gave his bad guy characters a human touch, making them more three dimensional.
This is sad news.

I know that he apparently didn't die of COVID, but I feel that the people we lose during the pandemic just vanish. It's disorienting.

(11,780 posts)And Dennehy played a PI or something. Dont remember the title now. Probably in the 80s. I know he played the heavy sometimes but I liked him better as a good guy.

(72,059 posts)I liked James Woods back then. I liked his twitchy, febrile energy. He had a likeable on-screen presence. Who knew he'd turn out to be a right-wing hammerhead?
