Cuomo Says New York Appears On 'Other Side' As Deaths Drop Again
Source: Bloomberg
Governor Andrew Cuomo said Sunday that New York appeared to be on the other side of the coronavirus outbreak, reporting another drop in deaths to 507 and highlighting other positive trends.
If this trend holds we are past the high point, he told reporters at a briefing on Long Island. Whether or not the descent continues depends on what we do. But right now we are on a descent.
The new death count was the lowest since April 6, after the state weathered almost two weeks of fatalities between 606 and 799, on April 9. In a notably upbeat briefing, Cuomo showed the curve of total hospitalizations on steady downward trend. He said that intubations onto ventilators continue to drop.
Total new hospitalizations dropped dramatically from just over 1,915 on Saturday to 1,384 on Sunday. But he said that remained a high number that continues to stretch the states medical system. He said he also remains concerned about outbreaks in nursing homes. Its no time to get cocky and its no time to get arrogant, he said. We still have a long way to go and a lot of work to do....

(171,065 posts)Too bad so much of the country isn't paying attention. Or worse, don't care.

(6,477 posts)The working class white areas in NYC (for example, northeastern Queens) and Nassau and Suffolk. These are prime Tea Bagger areas, full of the same kind of clowns you're seeing attending these protests in other areas. They're not doing it in NY. Why? Because their friends, parents, siblings are dying. Is there anyone in Queens who doesn't know somebody who has died personally? The Trump flag wavers and Hannity crowd in NYC and Long Island are quiet on this because they know the virus is real and vicious. They have the dead friends and family to show for it.
The rest of the country will catch up, unfortunately.

Buffalo has an even planned tomorrow; and Albany later in the week.
Its spreading to New York; just like the virus itself.

(24,259 posts)In St Lawrence County cases have gone from 58 April 4th to 118 as of April 19th per the SLC Dept of Health. We are more than double the cases of other counties near us.
We moved here 15 years ago and sadly I'm actually not all that surprised that it's as high as it is because this area seems to have a significant population of dumber than a box of rocks Fox viewers who think this is all one big ass joke.
