COLUMBUS (WCMH) Gov. Mike DeWine announced Monday that schools will remain closed for the remainder of the school year due to the COVID-19 coronavirus.
Students will continue distance learning for the rest of the school year, DeWine said during his coronavirus briefing.
DeWine said the decision was made after talking to several parents, teachers, and administrators.
The governor laid out two reasons for the decision: the virus is still out there, and continuity for the students.

(23,307 posts)to close schools up here for the year. Google Classroom is a freaking nightmare to deal with. Id like to see them end the term now and have the teachers and administrators spend the remainder of the school year getting it all figured out for when we get hit with this next year.

We all think positive things regarding education and schooling processes CAN come out of this, though they miss the hands on of teaching it has triggered some progressive concepts through technology.
Both have been able to talk to the vast majority of their students through online apps as well.
Theyve also had weekly meetings with educators.
Thank you Gov. DeWine (he has been stepping up quite well) and school Administrations.

(35,300 posts)I mean, the state would be loosening restrictions--how could it possibly cancel school until the end of the year? There'd be riots.
Take Texas, for example. It's notorious at this point for loosening restrictions.
Oh. Uh. Actually, the same executive order that "loosened" social distancing also closed schools for the rest of the year.
Never mind.

(13,492 posts)schools closed a month ago, but soon after they started school on line. The governor, a couple of weeks ago, said schools would not open back up this academic school year. I think all districts were still going to be having classes though on line until sometime in May.

(6,797 posts)My 12 year old granddaughter understands the social distancing, the 10 year old not so much. And our "job" was to pick them up after school so it's not like we could distance ourselves. I don't like DeSwine but I have to admit he has done a good job with this virus.
