........................
The doctor who led the federal agency involved in developing a coronavirus vaccine said on Wednesday that he was removed from his post after he pressed for a rigorous vetting of a coronavirus treatment embraced by President Trump. The doctor said that science, not politics and cronyism must lead the way.
..........................................
....................
Instead, he was given a narrower job at the National Institutes of Health. I believe this transfer was in response to my insistence that the government invest the billions of dollars allocated by Congress to address the Covid-19 pandemic into safe and scientifically vetted solutions, and not in drugs, vaccines and other technologies that lack scientific merit, he said in a statement to The Timess Maggie Haberman.
............................................
I am speaking out because to combat this deadly virus, science not politics or cronyism has to lead the way, he said.
.................................
...........................
In the statement, he said: My professional background has prepared me for a moment like this to confront and defeat a deadly virus that threatens Americans and people around the globe. To this point, I have led the governments efforts to invest in the best science available to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
Unfortunately, this resulted in clashes with H.H.S. political leadership, including criticism for my proactive efforts to invest early into vaccines and supplies critical to saving American lives. I also resisted efforts to fund potentially dangerous drugs promoted by those with political connections, he said.................................

(10,885 posts)The Times reports the presidents family trusts all have investments in a mutual fund whose largest holding is Sanofi, the manufacturer of Plaquenil, the brand-name version of hydroxychloroquine. Associates of the president, including Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, have also run funds that hold investments in the pharmaceutical firm.

If hydroxychloroquine becomes an accepted treatment, several pharmaceutical companies stand to profit, including shareholders and senior executives with connections to the president. Mr. Trump himself has a small personal financial interest in Sanofi, the French drugmaker that makes Plaquenil, the brand-name version of hydroxychloroquine

(38,359 posts)Here is why. Trump constantly knocks the media for this and for that. Here is an individual who checks on the truth concerning viruses. That is his job and that is his career. If this individual sees a so called "medicine" ,vaccine, or product that doesn't work, it is his job to report on it. So Trump fired him for doing his job.
...Today is Wednesday. This will be the weekend news discussion. No Trump will not get away with it, because this doctor was telling the truth, and Trump was pushing a "lie"..
...Of course it looks like he will get away with it, but he won't..Was the doctor telling the truth or telling a lie? Is Trump telling the truth or telling a lie?
....Trump's attack on the media and the press will come to full impact. Will the media want to report on this?.
(all except for Fox news) Yes. This will be very big news. He led the agency that " pressed the rigorous vetting of a coronavirus treatment embraced by President Trump.
...This will take time, but could really cost Trump. Perhaps, or perhaps not. The media, constantly attacked by Donald Trump will not let this go without a fight. That is my opinion..We shall see.

(38,359 posts)one thing is for sure, Trump does not control the media. There are many news outlets that will report on this. Almost all, except one: Fox News.
...and a couple of the more honest ones on Fox News might, just might report on this.

(8,983 posts)Hydroxychloroquine? I'll bet he keeps mentioning it.
"Well, you know, it has helped a lot of people, so I don't know".
And so more of his base will take it. And more of his base will die.

(10,885 posts)There was a graph shown on CNN tonight showing that for the past five weeks, Chump's mention of Hydroxychloroquine was between 10 and 22 times per week...then, suddenly, the VA report came out and it was mentioned only once this week. Same with any others who have spoken about it.
