Trump says he disagrees with Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp's decision to reopen during coronavirus outbrea

WASHINGTON President Donald Trump said he disagrees with Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp's decision to move quickly to reopen parts of the state's economy, but said the final call belongs to the governor.
"I told the governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, that I disagree, strongly, with his decision to open certain facilities, Trump told reporters, saying the state's coronavirus case numbers don't meet the threshold needed to reopen under the White House's guidelines.
At the same time, Trump added, Kemp "must do what he thinks is right."
Kemp said he appreciated Trump's critique and praised his "bold leadership and insight during these difficult times" but would stick with a plan in which businesses re-open carefully with restrictions designed to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

(5,801 posts)it's obvious red don and the RWNJ govs are all in together on the grand re-opening scheme, aka "peasant sacrifice rite."
The only question I have is whether kemp is now being thrown under the bus with or without his consent, as red don seeks to be on both sides in case the re-opening backfires spectacularly. Wouldn't be the first time red don stabs an accomplice in the back.

(21,280 posts)Looks like his rebel storm troopers aren't doing a good job of convincing people to die for Wall Street.
I saw a great statement here or on Raw Story that I use a lot. "This may be the first Civil War where the rebels kill themselves."

Trump IS responsible again for more failed attempts at handling this virus , and his propaganda is being rejected more every day he is talking. His lying is getting more exaggerated every day trying desperately to con his supporters into not believing the truth, and many more are running from him now for it. Liar trump losing his support now.

(4,006 posts)about GA Governor Kemp's plan, he and Birx would say he's totally wrong and should not re-open GA businesses as planned. Trump the next day then threw Kemp under the bus and said he's wrong to go ahead with the plan. Still waiting today to see if Kemp swallows his balls, loses all respect, as if he had any left anyway, and rescinds his own orders!
Good that Trumpyboy listened for a change and Fauci won this battle.

(5,324 posts)According to this DU post:
If there's no state order calling for businesses to be closed, the people who are unemployed can no longer claim that their unemployment is involuntary, even if it would be utter idiocy for them to return to work."
"A hairdresser or a massage therapist cannot maintain social distance. But they can certainly file for relief.. unless the law says they can work."
If Kemp's decision has the same motive then maybe Trump feels he has nothing to lose by criticizing it.

President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence repeatedly told Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp that they approved of his aggressive plan to allow businesses to reopen, just a day before Trump pulled an about-face and publicly bashed the plan, according to two administration officials.
The green light from Pence and Trump came in separate private conversations with the Republican governor both before Kemp announced his plan to ease coronavirus restrictions and after it was unveiled on Monday, the officials said. Trumps sudden shift came only after top health advisers reviewed the plan more closely and persuaded the president that Kemp was risking further spread of the virus by moving too quickly.
I told the governor of Georgia Brian Kemp that I disagree strongly with his decision to open certain facilities, Trump said Wednesday, just a day after telling reporters that he trusted Kemps judgment. He knows whats hes doing.
On Thursday, he was even harder on the governor: I wasnt happy with Brian Kemp, I wasnt at all happy.
The extraordinary reversal and public criticism of a GOP ally is only the latest in a series of contradictory and confusing messages from the president on how and when he believes governors should ease stay-at-home orders intended to stop the spread of the deadly virus. It demonstrates the political risk for governors in following the unpredictable presidents guidance.
