Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was one of the last governors to enforce a "stay-at-home" order to combat the coronavirus pandemic. Now that the order was set to expire soon, a recent poll revealed the majority of Florida voters think it was not yet time to relax the social distancing rules.
Results of a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday (April 22) revealed 72% of Florida voters think the state should not loosen its social distancing rules at the end of April. Specifically, 90% of democrats, 69% of independents and 55% of Republicans think social distancing should coninue into May.
Further, 76% said the state's economy should only be reopened when public health officials say it is already safe, compared to the 17% who said the economy should reopen even if public health officials warn against it.
"The state's stay-at-home order is scheduled to expire at the end of the month of April, but nearly three quarters of Floridians are not ready to drop their guard," Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy said.

And unfortunately, the media makes them out to be a bigger (and less irresponsible) group

(20 posts)98% want universal background checks. 78% want paid family/medical leave, 83% want net neutrality, 80% want to protect the Dreamers, etc., etc. These are large majorities, but Republicans block it all.

(13 posts)E.J. Dionne: The assumptions underlying a controversy are often more important than the controversy itself.
Take the case of our blithe acceptance of the electoral college. There is nothing normal or democratic about choosing our president through a system that makes it ever more likely that the candidate who garners fewer votes will nonetheless assume power. For a country that has long claimed to model democracy to the world, this is both wrong and weird.
And there is also nothing neutral or random about how our system works. The Electoral College tilts outcomes toward white voters, conservative voters, and certain regions of the country. People outside these groups and places are supposed to sit back and accept their relative disenfranchisement. There is no reason they should, and at some point, they wont. This will lead to a meltdown.

It could be "Puppies are Cute" vs "A pile of manure dumped on your head" and Florida would be 50.1% to 49.9%.

This is the outcome of the election fraud Repubs have historically -- historically -- conducted in Florida for over 20 years.
Floridians are aware. Florida has been a high corruption state since before current voters were born.
So discovering it, remedying it, has been the slog here of every generation.
Don't think the 37 billionaires of Florida have ever helped FL voters for one minute, either. Keeping them living paycheck-to-paycheck and confused has always been the game of the rich and their Republican tools.
