Elizabeth Warren's oldest brother dies of coronavirus in Oklahoma

Source: Boston Globe

Donald Reed Herring, the oldest brother of Senator Elizabeth Warren, died on Tuesday night in Norman, Okla., about three weeks after testing positive for coronavirus.

Herring, a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, was 86.

Warren, who has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration’s halting response to the pandemic for months, has not previously revealed that her family was waging its own personal battle against the virus. She confirmed his death in a statement provided to the Globe and said the cause was coronavirus.

“I’m grateful to the nurses and other front-line staff who took care of my brother, but it is hard to know that there was no family to hold his hand or to say ‘I love you’ one more time. And now there’s no funeral for those of us who loved him to hold each other close,” Warren said. “I will miss my brother.”

an aspect of the disease, it's an aspect of how we are dealing with it. I would hope that once this is overish and there is time to think, people will realize that this is unacceptable and find a way to deal with it.

The Republican governors in those states have defended their decisions, arguing that their hospitals aren’t overrun and their rural states haven’t been hit as hard as others with denser urban centers, such as New York, Washington or Louisiana. The governors have said they don’t want to hurt small businesses or infringe on individual freedoms.

This illness is so terrible in many ways. One of them is that people die alone. One of my best friend's mother took ill over the weekend and was taken to the hospital. She passed away yesterday. My friend and her sister had to say goodbye to her via FaceTime the day before. Imagine saying goodbye to your mom that way. The poor woman died alone, no family member to hold her hand or tell her that they loved her in her last moments. My condolences to Sen. Warren and her family. May Mr. Herring rest in peace.

No matter their political affiliation. This is a horrible virus and it's horrible that people can't be with their loved ones in the end.
