Coronavirus: US death toll passes 50,000

Source: BBC

The US virus death toll has surpassed 50,000, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, in what is the world's deadliest Covid-19 outbreak.

More than 3,000 deaths came in the last 24 hours, and there are now over 870,000 confirmed cases nationwide.

But the US still has a lower mortality rate than most European nations based on current case counts, as the White House task force has emphasised.

Recent rises are also partly due to the inclusion of "probable" virus deaths.

The US has by far the highest death toll and case count in the world.

However, it has a population of 330 million, much higher than other worst affected countries such as Spain and Italy.

Dr Deborah Birx, an expert on the White House Covid-19 task force, has said the country has "one of the lowest mortality rates in the entire world".

On a per capita basis, the reported US death rate of 1.4 is lower than Spain, Italy, France, Belgium and the UK.

A friend sent me a Whatsapp video today, and he's not a "conspiracy guy", so I watched it. Then I did some checking. Very strange.....

China, today, has under 5000 total deaths in the country. Major commercial areas have a handful of deaths or even infections from this virus "that originated in China". What the hell is going on? There are all sorts of questions here, and I'm starting to brew my own conspiracy theory. Just take a look at the stats. China is the least affected of the industrialized world. The US is shut down. India is shut down. Europe is shut down. But China?.....................

We sure as hell are doing a worse job of containing this virus than China. Have you seen how many deaths China has had, to date: 4,462. Deaths outside of the Wuhan area: 1430 What the fuck is up with that???

I don't want to be a conspiracy theorist, but can anyone explain to me how China, the supposed origination of this nightmare plague, has less than 5000 deaths to date, and the backward third world counties like the USA have 50,372; France has 21,856; Germany 5,575; Italy 25,549; Spain 22,524; UK 19,506; China, outside the Wuhan area 1,430...... This all looks really suspicious, no??

But then, so are many states here in the U.S. (red states primarily - Florida especially).

God help us all.
