Lines start early for haircuts as Georgia begins to reopen

Source: Atlanta Journal-Constitution

They needed a trim, and couldn’t wait any longer. For the the first time in weeks, some Metro Atlanta hair salons and barbershops reopened Friday. And the lines started early.

The first phase of Gov. Brian Kemp’s plan to reopen Georgia during the coronavirus pandemic included haircut shops and gyms, though not all chose to open their doors.

Georgia barbershop owner ‘definitely not opening’ Friday, saying many others won’t either

The owner of a Georgia barbershop said she is not planning to open her doors Friday, when the state lifts coronavirus-related restrictions for businesses like hers.

“I’m definitely not opening this Friday. I don’t have a calendar date for opening,” Diane Fall said Thursday on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”

Fall, who owns Maxim Barbers in Decatur, Georgia, said the task of gathering personal protective equipment and other supplies needed to meet safety requirements by Friday is too onerous.

“Yesterday I went on the internet just looking for capes because they’re saying you have to use one cape for each client. I looked for disposable capes, there’s nothing out there,” Fall explained. “You have to have an infrared thermometer to take the temperature of your employees and each client who walks in the door. This can’t happen overnight.”

Getting a haircut done in a shop is not worth the risk.

We should stop anyone from GA from entering MI as of today. Turn them around and send them back.

I imagine some folks will be watching GA numbers beginning around May 8.

Now, I would have thought human testing would require maybe FDA approval? But, hey, I'm no scientist, so maybe this is permissible, like injecting bleach.

Speaking of injecting bleach, is anyone taking bets on the first injected Lysol/Clorox death? Date and location (state would be fine).

I have a theory about that. I think these are the same uptight people - and the children and grandchildren of those - who had hysterics in the 1960s and 70s about long hair. They equate long hair with being a hippy, being liberal, being radical.

Fear of long hair is so deeply ingrained in them, they are truly distressed not to be able to get their weekly haircuts now. They're literally rioting to hold up signs begging for haircuts.

I had no idea. It's a window into MAGATs' view of life. We talked a lot about repression and uptight people in the 1970s, but I had no idea.
