McConnell dangles aid to states -- with a catch

Source: Politico

Mitch McConnell is open to cutting a deal to provide reeling states and cities with relief during the pandemic-fueled recession. But it will come at a price.

In an interview on Monday, the Senate majority leader said it’s “highly likely” the next coronavirus response bill will aid local governments whose budgets have been decimated by lockdowns and now face spiraling deficits. But to unlock that money, McConnell also wants Congress to limit the liabilities of health care workers, business owners and employees from lawsuits as they reopen in the coming weeks and months.

“We probably will do another bill. What I’m saying is it won’t just be about money,” McConnell said. “The next pandemic coming will be the lawsuit pandemic in the wake of this one. So we need to prevent that now when we have the opportunity to do it.”

In acknowledging that states like New York and New Jersey can count on more federal aid in the next massive relief bill, the Kentucky Republican is cracking the door to an agreement with congressional Democrats after taking a hard line with his recent suggestion that states go “the bankruptcy route.”

Yes, KY gets a lot more bucks from the Federal Government than they pay in taxes. But you think that somehow it gets spent on its citizens?? It gets funneled to Moscow Mitch's buddies, like big coal and his Father In Law's shipping company. It sure as hell doesn't make it to us normal humans.

So we are working as hard as we can to get rid of the Moscow Mule and put a Democrat in his place. And here's an interesting side note. Amy McGrath, who is running against him and is a retired Marine Fighter Pilot is out raising McConnell for campaign funding and is getting it from mostly grass roots. People are getting fed up with Trump, appreciate the job our Governor is doing, and is sick of Mitch!

So, if you want tax dollars back, make damn sure they come our of McConnell's pockets and not mine!

If we could only cut off Mitch's state's welfare and then use it as a bargaining tool. I bet he would capitulate then and we could get something done.

Those welfare Kings. What are you going to do? They do fall into the "worst states" categories, though. Is it a coincidence?

Why does everyone think he’s a lock? He’s not well liked here, well by humans who vote. Business are a different matter.

It might not cost much. Or, get a 3rd party republican like, candidates. I’m not sure when the cut off is, but please someone try.

they eliminate as many local and state taxes as they can because they know they can get the blue states that do have those taxes will help them makeup the shortfall via the federal tax revenue that the welfare red states are sponging off of.
So really when we regain the Senate we should cut the Republican welfare red states off at the knees by cutting federal aid to them down to 1/5 what it currently is so they can pull on their big boy pants and pay for their own shit for a change rather than sponging off other states.

The best guess would be this concession includes any lawsuits against companies that are already violating safety standards. Then, of course, there will be the companies that violate the standards as the restrictions are slowly lifted.

In short, I'd guess it's a ban on any Corona virus linked litigation. Period.

Come on, it's the GOP.

Mitch doesn't want businesses to be liable for putting their employees in harm's way. Otherwise, businesses might not reopen until there's a vaccine or enough testing, which won't happen for months. And Mitch doesn't want to pay people to stay home like other countries are doing, so he is basically forcing people to risk infection at work or starve.

I'm sure they are all compromised in that regard. The corruption is so blatant and pervasive, I don't know how people still vote for them. I'm not sure what the end game is, but it's coming up fast, and I hope the Democrats are prepared to do more than issue stern rebukes. I'm not advocating a particular solution, but it should be abundantly clear that the survival of this country as a Democratic Republic is of no concern to the GOP and their international mobster associates.

He can control the Senate calendar, but he no longer has complete control over his caucus. Pelosi and Schumer will negotiate directly with Mnuchin et al, come up with an acceptable bill that Trump will endorse. Once he does that, all the Senate Rs will fall in line behind Trump.
