Amash launches exploratory committee for Libertarian presidential run
Source: The Hill
Rep. Justin Amash (I-Mich.) announced Tuesday that he has launched an exploratory committee to seek the Libertarian Partys presidential nomination, his strongest indication yet that he will mount a third-party White House bid.
Today, I launched an exploratory committee to seek the @LPNationals nomination for president of the United States. Americans are ready for practical approaches based in humility and trust of the people, Amash tweeted.
Were ready for a presidency that will restore respect for our Constitution and bring people together. Im excited and honored to be taking these first steps toward serving Americans of every background as president, he added.
The former Republican congressman has been toying for months with the prospect of waging a third-party campaign for the presidency and has come under an avalanche of pressure from Libertarians to throw his hat into the ring.

(14,173 posts)I don't know what would be the bigger advantage to Democrats.
You may be right, but it also could be that most of his potential votes will come from moderate R's and Never Trumpers who would have stayed home otherwise. Ones who are conditioned to never vote D no matter what. Giving them an outlet to express their big gob'mint fears without voting for Trump. And who knows how many would vote for Trump with their noses plugged because there is no alternative RW party to vote for? Its hard to tell at this point.

(57,080 posts)under a "New Republican Party". Just to see if that wouldn't get them to drawing some GOP blood among themselves.

(525 posts)I'm glad that disgruntled conservatives will have an alternative to Trump.
Latest Economist/YouGov poll showed that among registered Republicans who identify as conservative, 65% strongly approve of Trump's job performance; 19% somewhat approve; 7% somewhat disapprove and 5% strongly disapprove.
Let's hope that 12% vote Amash in November.

(23,097 posts)Any 3rd party run is a help to drumpf, this gives Independents someone other than Biden or drumpf to vote for while drumpfs criminal & racist supporters will show up no matter what, partly for hate and partly because they are totally stupid and don't believe in science & think they are immune to any bug - "covered in God's blood" is the saying I've heard from a bunch of these ignoramuses. The Koch version of Libertarians, aka fascist oligarchs inc. - is probably paying him because they want the same thing as drumpf - control of USA by fascist oligarchs with no labor or environment laws so they can rape and pillage at will.

(11,518 posts)I hate to admit this, but I made the horrible mistake of voting for Ralph Nader. NEVER AGAIN. I've learned my lesson, but sadly people come along all the time who don't yet understand what can happen.
