Seattle entrepreneur touting coronavirus vaccine caused uproar

Source: Seattle Times

Seattle entrepreneur Johnny Stine had admittedly grown tired of waiting for regulators to approve drugs his biotech company was developing, including one he promoted as a coronavirus vaccine.

So, last month he offered his COVID-19 solution on social media for $400 to buyers in Washington and beyond. One of those intrigued was the mayor of the San Juan Island town of Friday Harbor, Farhad Ghatan. He caused a social media stir this month by inviting Stine to visit him during a restricted travel period and perhaps have him try the unauthorized vaccine.

In an interview Wednesday, Ghatan, Friday Harbor’s mayor the past 2 1/2 years, described Stine as a longtime friend of 30 years and said he hadn’t intended to make his Facebook message public. Ghatan said he and Stine postponed the planned visit because of the uproar and that he hasn’t tried the vaccine or helped promote it.

...snip...

But the fallout saw official complaints lodged with multiple Washington state government agencies, including the office of Attorney General Bob Ferguson — who sent Stine a cease-and-desist letter last week warning of possible lawsuits and heavy fines for making “false or unsupported claims’’ about a coronavirus vaccine that doesn’t yet exist.

I belong to a couple of Lopez Island groups because my boyfriend's family has had a place up there for 100 years. The islands have done a really good job with the virus and have fewer than 20 reported cases on the three major islands and no deaths. We have not gone up there since before the lockdown, and believe me, the Islanders are keeping an eagle eye out for mainlanders who ferry over.

Then along comes this Friday Harbor mayor with this nonsense! It caused quite a stir. It's the biggest tomfoolery since a few years ago issued a slew of tickets to people on a hayride when the brake lights were out on the trailer they were riding in.

I fully believe that there will be countless claims like his in the immediate future.

Even legitimate drug companies obsessed with making incredible wealth from coming out with a drug or vaccine, before it can be proven a falsehood.....

Making a fortune before it can be revealed that their drug is the answer.

That is happening as we speak.............First Trump endorsing the Oxy whatever, and now Remidi whatever.......

Just wait for all the snake oil salesmen that will be endorsing whatever as the cure. Of course none of them will ever be able to be as successful as Trump peddling house hold disinfectant injected into the human body and lungs.......

People.......WASF This is either approaching or has already reached the Point Of No Return........

ALREADY FDA TESTED AND APPROVED DRUGS being tested for effectiveness against CV-19.

Whatever this dude's come up with, marketing it without FDA review is big-time illegal and dangerous.

If the AG didn't issue a C&D it would be irresponsible.

ON EDIT: Remdevisir isn't FDA approved so I took it out.

Hydroxychloroquine and Remdivisir was because Agolf Twitler told them to so he could make some money on the side. He got the FDA & CDC to change laws/rules into recommendations for the meat packing industry. Our entire government has gone to hell because of his "Loyalists", I don't believe much of what's coming out of Washington.

they're being tested for "off label" use against it now. or were.

Hydroxy tests have not shown any positive results. Trump was touting it because a bunch of RW clowns were and he's a fucking charlatan.

Remdesivir is supposedly more promising but I don't follow such things closely.

Remdesivir, last I heard, was NOT approved by FDA for any use. The drug company developed it for Ebola, and their clinical trials failed miserably............

Now the company is marching it out in Trumpland, but other nations who have tested it say it's next to worthless in doing anything but maybe lessening the symptoms for a few days, that is, if the patient doesn't die first.....I say maybe, because their study in America didn't include normal testing to FDA standards. Their study didn't include a double blind as I understand it, and that immediately disqualifies it as a legitimate study.

We are gonna see all kinds of "discoveries" crop up in the future......everyone wants the extreme profits from finding the cure.
Hell, at this point in time, the science community doesn't even know if once "cured" that it can't be re-acquired.....
and that is the Billion (or Trillion) dollar question.....

Remdesivir is an investigational nucleotide analog with broad-spectrum antiviral activity – it is not approved anywhere globally for any use. Remdesivir has demonstrated in vitro and in vivo activity in animal models against the viral pathogens MERS and SARS, which are also coronaviruses and are structurally similar to COVID-19. The limited preclinical data on remdesivir in MERS and SARS indicate that remdesivir may have potential activity against COVID-19.

Remdesivir is an experimental medicine that does not have established safety or efficacy for the treatment of any condition.

Gilead’s response to COVID-19 entails three main areas:
•Remdesivir Clinical Trials
•Emergency Access to Remdesivir Outside of Clinical Trials
•Increasing Manufacturing and Supply for Remdesivir

these two drugs were already approved for use to treat other conditions. The "thing" the huckster in Seattle was hawking was not a drug, not approved, and never developed! Further, the recent proposals regarding the meat packing industry were about declaring them critical infrastructure under DPA .. and had nothing to do with CDC/FDA recommendations. As the old saying goes .. everybody's entitled to their own beliefs .. but not their own facts.
(I suppose that's somewhat open to debate, these days .. but some of us keep trying to push back)

The major problem right now in intentional mis information being spread by Putin, Trump, Senate RepubliCONS, and a ton of
the Mass Media which is 80+% owned by wealthy RepubliCONS......

I enjoy watching Rachel for one main reason. She checks and triple checks every last thing before she reports on it. I know someone on her staff that says she is hell bent on reporting only proven truths and facts.....

The NYTimes is still so so on whose side they take, Wash Post is reasonable, at least a lot of the time, the Guardian is good, likewise for Rolling Stone magazine believe it or not....LOL

It is really really hard to get the facts. The FDA has been severely compromised ever since W took office, WHO and CDC have been influenced by the Right Wing...etc etc.

Fauci does his best, but still has to bite his tongue through most news conferences......

ETC ETC ETC

But hang in there!!!!!!!!!!!

One of Jack Nicholson's better performances, IMHO.

Which has nothing to do with the Covid 19 attack other than both contain drama. Sorry, but the mention of a family living there for 100 years was too much like the situation with Jack's girlfriend in the movie.

The ability to isolate is one advantage smaller islands have. No way to isolate islands as large as Manhattan or even Palm Beach or we could quarantine Dump and family like the disease they are.

and then go to New York City for a month?

Do all the normal things in NYC, visit the tourist hotspots if they're open,
go to the most popular restaurants if they're open, maybe even volunteer at a hospital.
Then let us know if you are still coronavirus free, if you can.

Just a thought.
