Trump Moves to Replace Watchdog Who Identified Critical Medical Shortages

WASHINGTON President Trump moved on Friday night to replace a top official at the Department of Health and Human Services who angered him with a report last month highlighting supply shortages and testing delays at hospitals during the coronavirus pandemic.
The White House waited until after business hours to announce the nomination of a new inspector general for the department who, if confirmed, would take over for Christi A. Grimm, the principal deputy inspector general who was publicly assailed by the president at a news briefing three weeks ago.
The nomination was the latest effort by Mr. Trump against watchdog offices around his administration that have defied him. In recent weeks, he fired an inspector general involved in the inquiry that led to the presidents impeachment, nominated a White House aide to another key inspector general post overseeing virus relief spending and moved to block still another inspector general from taking over as chairman of a pandemic spending oversight panel.
Mr. Trump has sought to assert more authority over his administration and clear out officials deemed insufficiently loyal in the three months since his Senate impeachment trial on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress ended in acquittal largely along party lines. While inspectors general are appointed by the president, they are meant to be semiautonomous watchdogs ferreting out waste, fraud and corruption in executive agencies.

(6,915 posts)The next president should be experienced with administration of 330 million people. Trump had a small company of 20 people and most of them family.
Trump is terrible at HR and personnel, the next president needs those skills.
Did I mention Joe Biden?

(4,006 posts)Next, he'll pull out of his jacket pocket a long list of appointees (those not needing Congressional approval) that the Biden committee has already vetted with DNC help. They can take over immediately since post the election in November, they were already contacted and said yes.
Next, he'll also appoint and allow to take office all the IG positions Trump neutered. Cabinet officials have also, per the above, will also be nominated and immediately approved by new Leader Schumer over in the Democratically controlled Senate.
Lots more work to do yet a ton of newly-drafted Executive Orders will be signed in January 2021 to overturn the worst of the Orangeturd's work. See, once again Trumpboy failed to heed experienced hands. Instead of getting a lot of his terrible plans codified into law (gee, that would take real effort to get bills passed!) the easy route was by E.O.'s, E.O's that btw can be easily reversed by the next President. His supporters, like Trumpelstilskins, don''t even know this!
See, even before President Obama took the office, we Democrats headed by Obama/Biden had a plan. Today, Biden's folks already have I'm sure lots of flip-chart type sketching on PowerPoint of who they want to fill key positions. Lots of back room talk with Speaker Pelosi and Schumer and some key House/Senate leaders on whom to choose.
Trump in 2016/2017? On planning, none whatsoever. He even rejected advice by Senate Leader McTurtle and other key Republiscums on these critical issue. This is why that even today so, so many positions all over D.C. remain unfilled. Heck, he even installed recently a young, inexperienced camp follower with zero Capitol Hill experience as a SS-type gate guard to vet new hires by demanding fealty to the OrangeTerror.

(18,672 posts)Just like a 5 year old would do. This needs to stop. He's actually making this pandemic the worst it could possibly be for a country with all the resources, talent and will to have been able to battle this virus successfully. That time is lost, though. We could have done this if we didn't have a colossal criminal dipshit in charge. I wish we could jump to the timeline where Hillary is President.

(21,323 posts)but it is hard to shove dead Americans under the carpet or make the virus afraid by Tweeting. Trump has just about drained all of the swamp of decent, honest, people.
This also sends another message to good people who speak out.
Our country is badly broken. Is there anyone left to speak truth to power? How many more dead Americans will it take to convince people that our "electoral college president" is a threat to America?
