Trump's Pick for Intelligence Chief Follows a Slew of QAnon Accounts
Source: The Daily Beast
For a nominee to helm the U.S. governments intelligence apparatus, Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-Texas) draws on some unusual sources of information.
Ratcliffes official, verified campaign Twitter account follows several accounts on the political fringe, including a 9/11 truther account with just one follower besides himself and four promoting the outlandish QAnon conspiracy theory, which posits that the world is run by a cabal of Democratic pedophile-cannibalsand has been ruled a potential source of domestic terrorism by the FBI.
The conspiracy theorists followed by Ratcliffe, whose nomination for director of national intelligence goes before the Senate intelligence committee Tuesday morning, cover a bizarre range of beliefs. They posit that John F. Kennedy Jr. faked his death to help Trump to take down the Deep State. Others claim a Democratic sex dungeon exists in in a Washington pizzeria. But Ratcliffe and the QAnon promoters he follows have one thing in common: utter loyalty to Trump.
Even before Ratcliffes QAnon interest was known, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), a committee member, told The Daily Beast, Congressman Ratcliffe is a partisan politician who has spent the last two years promoting conspiracy theories in defense of Donald Trump.

Trump fired his predecessor, retired Adm. Joseph Maguire, who also held the job in an acting capacity, after a subordinate testified to Congress that in the view of the U.S. intelligence community, Russia prefers to see Trump win the 2020 election.
Some Trump critics speculate that the nomination is a gambit to prolong Grennells tenure.
By law, the acting DNI would have had to leave the job on March 11 if the president hadnt sent a nomination to the Senate. With a nominee, he can serve until the Senate confirms Ratcliffe, or for six months after the nomination is rejected.

(19,192 posts)As a candidate, Donald Trump would famously boast that if elected, he'd "surround myself only with the best and most serious people" -- adding: "We want top-of-the-line professionals." That's from the CNN archives.
Rachel Maddow finally gave up on keeping track of how many people have gone through the rapidly spinning revolving door of Trump administration employees. It was at well over 60 the last time I knew, and that was over a year ago.
So now he wants this Looney Tunes escapee to be the Director of National Intelligence? Yeah, "only the best people". The people who'll give Trump only what he wants to hear, is more in line with what Trump means.
