UK reports highest death toll in Europe.

Source: BBC

The latest daily reported death total for the UK (29,427) is now higher than the total for Italy (29,315)

The UK has reached this figure faster in its epidemic than Italy, but there are caveats to the comparison

Until today, Italy had been the European country with the highest number of deaths - and the second in the world (after the US). But with 29,315 people to have lost their lives to coronavirus - compared to the UK's 29,427 - it has slipped into third place

The pandemic is showing us which countries have piss poor leadership. The US is #1!

When you look at rates there are some surprises. Maybe they are only surprises if you don't follow European current affairs, but Belgium? Kinda crappy. Switzerland? Not great. Sweden's much derided herd immunity philosophy? By no means the worst in Europe, and this is the front end of their game plan, which would expect to be a little worse at the beginning.

To me, the only thing numbers really seem to show on the surface is that third world countries are handling the crisis the best. That could be reporting? Or density, but India? Weather? Who knows.

Our response is inexcusable and can't be compared to countries that when combined don't have the GDP we have in the US.

That’d be horrific. These numbers are to but considering how populated we are. We probably on the bottom.

Ranked most to least:

Deaths per Million population: San Marino, Belgium, Andorra, Spain, Italy, UK, France, Sint Maarten, Netherlands, Sweden, Isle of Man, Ireland, Channel Islands, USA (hmm, I thought Sweden was doing great (sarcasm) )

Leaving out the postage stamp sized ones:

Deaths per Million population: Belgium, Spain, Italy, UK, France, Netherlands, Sweden, Ireland, USA (9th)

Cases per Million population: San Marino, Vatican City, Andorra, Luxembourg, Qatar, Spain, Iceland, Ireland, Belgium, Gibraltar, Fareoe Islands, Isle of Man, Falklan Islands, USA

Much closer to the top than the bottom by both measures.

to me why raw numbers of cases and deaths keep being reported in headlines. They aren't meaningful as news unless they are really off base. "Switzerland has more Corona deaths than China" might be a headline. "US has more Corona deaths than Belgium" doesn't tell me a thing. Rates. RATES.

It's called "herd immunity"--just let the virus run unchecked through the populace, especially since it kills the old, infirm, and poor in greater numbers. Make no real effort to provide testing or track infections, especially since they make the leader look bad. The wealthy sequester themselves and get testing and good care if infected, while everyone else scrambles for whatever medical supplies and care private industry can make money from. Eventually enough people have been exposed that transmission slows. Eventually a vaccine becomes available.

Fits perfectly with the no-government, cull the weak, let private industry drive everything mentality of amoral idiots red don and johnson.
