Trump: Wind down task force because we can't stay 'closed for the next 5 years'

Source: American Independent

By Dan Desai Martin -May 5, 2020 6:01 PM

Donald Trump is prioritizing the U.S. economy over American lives.

On Tuesday, Donald Trump defended the idea of winding down the White House coronavirus task force because he is eager to reopen the American economy.

"We can't keep our country closed for the next five years," Trump said in response to reports that the task force may dissolve this month. "You can say there might be a recurrence, and there might be. And most doctors or some doctors say that it will happen, and it'll be a flame and we're gonna put the flame out."

Trump and many Republicans around the country have pushed to reopen many parts of the economy even as experts warn that such a decision will likely result in more coronavirus cases and a higher death toll.

A new model from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington estimates 135,000 deaths in the country through the beginning of August, the New York Times reported on Monday.

First, I thought it was a hoax.
Then, I thought it was going to go away in the warm weather.
Then, there was a miracle drug.
Then, there was a warp speed vaccine team.
Now, it will be 5 years.
He's a horrible liar.

COVID-19 cases could surge in fall, last 2 years, University of Minnesota report says
The pandemic could last up to two years, according to nationally renowned epidemiologist
Michael Osterholm and a team of researchers.

https://www.startribune.com/covid-19-cases-could-surge-in-fall-last-2-years-u-report-predicts/570130602/

This shit could go on for sometime until we get a vaccine and treatments.

Osterholm is on record as saying we could get a 70% world wide infection rate.

I cannot stand the juvenile debate tactic that conservatives love to use of throwing out extremes like Trump just did with the "we can't be closed for five years" comment.

This is pure gaslighting from Trump. In his magical thinking, he believes that if we do away with the task force, then people will believe the pandemic is over. Sadly, he may be absolutely correct about that one. It's appalling and slightly amusing that he acts like any flare up of virus cases will be snuffed out like a flame. Um, Donnie, we haven't "snuffed out" shit! We're still dealing with the first one!

In fact, having an expert task force is essential for opening the economy the best possible way to ensure it stays open rather than collapses by letting the pandemic get even more out of control.

He can't bear the thought of not going to his rallies (designed to rally his enthusiasm, not his supporters'). He's had enough, cooped up in a huge mansion with hundreds of people in it, and with anyone he wants on the end of a phone. The average American is quite willing to do what it takes to keep the death toll down, but President Short-Attention-Span needs to pretend he's doing something, after everyone in the world at him playing doctor, and that means shutting something down, even if that something has the purpose of saving lives.

Just like they did the first time. Any self respecting reporter should’ve followed up with how will it be different this time around?
And geez we’ve literally been closed not even 2 months and he jumps to 5 years like anyone has suggested that. Another follow up could’ve been do we really need to close that long given you’ve said the vaccine will be ready in 6 months?

so we can go on back to the important business of praising Trump. Next he will order all government agencies to stop tracking and reporting Covid-19 cases. No one needs to worry about it, so no one needs to know those numbers.

He will, however, call for a new task force . . . to investigate Joe Biden.

(I was gonna put the sarcasm notice on here, but I can't tell the difference between sarcasm, satire, and reality anymore.)

His "task force" was a three month long joke, as was putting his idiot son-in-law in charge of distributing PPEs and ventilators. And the daily "briefings" were nothing but a rally in a different venue, giving him a chance to insult reporters to their faces rather than via tweets.

He is not just a pathetic president, he a piss-poor excuse for a human being. Every breath he takes is a waste of oxygen.
